Beterbiev's record is a perfect one, with the 39-year-old winning all 21 of his fights since turning professional.
As an amateur, Beterbiev won a light-heavyweight silver medal at the 2007 World Championships, as well as a gold medal at the 2008 World Cup, 2009 World Championships, 2006 and 2010 European Championships.
He made his professional debut in 2013 in Canada, where he has trained since entering the paid ranks.
His first eight fights took place in his second home of Canada, before he beat Alexander Johnson to win the WBO International Light Heavyweight title in June 2015.
Beterbiev got his hands on his first world title in November 2017 when he stopped Enrico Kolling to win the vacant IBF World Light Heavyweight crown.
He defended that belt against Callum Johnson in October 2018 and Radivoje Kalajdzic in May 2019.
The powerful puncher added Oleksandr Gvozdyk's WBC Light Heavyweight title to his collection in October 2019, defending those belts against Adam Deines and Marcus Browne in 2021.
Beterbiev's world title pursuit continued in June 2022, winning the WBO strap at the expense of Joe Smith Jr.
Wins over Anthony Yarde and Callum Smith setup his contest against Bivol, but his fellow Russian is the only man to take him the distance as a professional.
Neither man scored a knockdown in their first meeting, with Beterbiev securing a narrow majority decision win as he became the first-ever undisputed Light-Heavyweight champion in the four-belt era.

Like Beterbiev, Bivol was a decorated amateur. He won two World Championships at U17 level, as well as the Russian national amateur boxing championships in 2012 and 2014.
His amateur record ended at 268-15, and he took his skills into the paid ranks in November 2014.
Bivol's size and power helped him win his first six fights inside the distance, with Felix Valera taking him to points in 2016 as he won the WBA interim Light Heavyweight title.
Bivol kept himself busy, fighting four times in 2017 as he beat Robert Berridge, Samuel Clarkson, Cedric Agnew and Trent Broadhurst.
He won his first world title against Broadhurst, recording a knockout victory to win the WBA Light Heavyweight crown.
Known for his technical skills, Bivol had no issues beating former world champions Isaac Chilemba, Jean Pascal and Smith Jr. between 2017 and 2019.
Bivol has since recorded vital wins against the likes of Canelo Alvarez, Gilberto Ramirez and Lyndon Arthur, but he was unable to overcome Beterbiev in their first encounter.
