Head coach Todd Bowles says draft pick Rachaad White can be the Tampa Bay Buccaneers "change of pace" running back.
The Bucs, 16/5 to win the NFC Championship, used a third-round selection to add White to a crowded RB room that includes Super Bowl winner Leonard Fournette and fellow veterans Giovani Bernard and Ke'Shawn Vaughn.
Fournette, who earned the nickname 'Playoff Lenny' while helping the Bucs win Super Bowl LV in Tampa, is almost certain to be the starter after signing a three-year deal worth up to $24m back in March.
White targeting starting role
But White, who has many of the same qualities and possesses an impressive burst of acceleration too, is targeting his job even before he arrives at rookie minicamp.
"My expectation, my goal is I'm going in there competing," he told the Jim Rome Show.
"I want to be the starting running back. That's how it go. I know I got Lenny in front of me. And you know I'm going to soak up a lot of knowledge from Lenny in that running backs room and Giovani Bernard. That's just the type of guy I am. You know, I'm always a competitor first."

Bowles pleased with alternative option
Bowles, who revealed the Bucs needed to trade out of the first round this year in order to grab vital extra picks, already appears to have earmarked a role for the ex-Sun Devil.
"He brings a change of pace back to us," Bowles told SiriusXM NFL Radio. "He's a little different than Fournette and Vaughn and Gio.
"We thought we were really lacking a change of pace back and we really needed one that can come in and run the ball and catch the ball as well."
