New Jersey will look to end a four-game losing streak on Wednesday when the Boston Bruins visit. However, the Devils have dropped nine of their last 11 games and haven’t scored more than three goals in a game since Dec. 27.
While the Devils remain comfortably in third place in the Metropolitan Division, that position could be at risk with 11 of their next 15 games on the road.
Boston, meanwhile, is 3-0-1 since snapping a six-game losing streak, earning wins over Florida, Tampa Bay, and San Jose.
The Bruins are 9-12-3 on the road this season but are 8-0-1 against the Devils since the start of the 2021/22 season. The teams last met on Jan. 15, 2024, when Bruins goaltender Jeremy Swayman shut out the Devils.
Swayman is 2-0-1 with a 1.31 goals-against average and a .954 save percentage against the Devils in his career.
Although Swayman hasn’t had his best season, he’s shown improvement recently. Despite a 4-5-1 record over his last 10 games, Swayman’s top performances have come during this stretch, and his .919 save percentage ranks fifth among goaltenders who have faced at least 400 unblocked shot attempts since Dec. 23.
While the Devils will be well-rested heading into this game, Swayman has had three days off. Considering New Jersey’s offensive struggles over the past month, this could be a favorable opportunity to back the Bruins as significant underdogs.
