Boca Juniors and Benfica meet in the second match of Group C at the FIFA Club World Cup.

This match could decide who finishes in second place in Group C, with leaders Bayern Munich off to a scorching start having won their opener 10-0 over Auckland City over the weekend.

Both Benfica and Boca Juniors boast experience in major club and international competitions.

Benfica reached the last 16 of the 2024/25 UEFA Champions League, where they lost to Barcelona 4-1 on aggregate, but the Portuguese side showed they were worthy competition. Striker Vangelis Pavlidis and winger Kerem Akturkoglu, the club’s top two scorers and assisters this season, are two names to look out for as the Liga Portugal runners-up come stateside. Center back Nicolas Otamendi is a World Cup and Copa America winner with Argentina, as well.

Boca Juniors’ former European standouts in the form of Edinson Cavani, Ander Herrera, Marcos Rojo and Sergio Romero are toward the back-end of their careers, but are not to be taken lightly in a competition where the top teams could have their foot off the gas.

The Argentine side were recently knocked out in the quarterfinals of the Liga Profesional Apertura tournament and parted ways with head coach Fernando Gago for Miguel Angel Russo, now in his third stint with the club.
