The Big Ten Conference is welcoming four new teams in 2024.
Oregon, UCLA, USC and Washington are joining this season, which should see one of college football's toughest conferences get even more difficult to navigate.
Last season, Michigan beat Ohio State in the conference championship game. Will anyone unseat the Wolverines in 2024?
Ohio State | +150 |
Oregon | +200 |
Penn State | +450 |
Michigan | +600 |
USC | +2200 |
Iowa | +2800 |
Nebraska | +6000 |
Washington | +6000 |
The Ohio State Buckeyes took full advantage of the transfer portal this offseason, and they're the favorites to win the Big Ten for the first time since 2020.
Buckeyes coach Ryan Day brought in former Kansas State QB Will Howard, former Ole Miss RB Quinshon Judkins, and former Alabama safety Caleb Downs, among others. Plus, star wide receiver Emeka Egbuka returns and will be joined by Jeremiah Smith, who could make a big impact as a true freshman.
Defensively, Ohio State brings back its two sack leaders - JT Tuimoloau and Jack Sawyer - and two of its best defensive backs in Jordan Hancock and Denzel Burke.
The Oregon Ducks, another team that took advantage of the transfer portal under head coach Dan Lanning, are second in the odds. They brought in former Oklahoma QB Dillon Gabriel to replace NFL-bound Bo Nix, as well as eight defensive players to ease the move from the Pac-12 to the Big Ten.
Key returning players for Oregon include WR Tez Johnson, WR Traeshon Holden, WR Gary Bryant Jr. and RB Jordan James.
Penn State is third in the market and is bringing back starting QB Drew Allar. Under head coach James Franklin, the Nittany Lions were not as aggressive in the portal as some of their rivals, but they brought in former Georgia CB AJ Harris and former Ohio State WR Julian Fleming, who should both play big roles.
Reigning Big Ten and National Champions Michigan are fourth in the odds to win the conference. The Wolverines have a new head coach in Sherrone Moore, and they will have a preseason quarterback battle to replace NFL-bound JJ McCarthy as the starter.
The rest of the teams in the conference are longer than 20/1 to win it. USC is fifth in the odds in its first season post-Caleb Williams, and the Trojans are followed by the Iowa Hawkeyes, Nebraska Cornhuskers, Washington Huskies, Maryland Terrapins and Wisconsin Badgers.
Teams with odds 150/1 or longer are the Michigan State Spartans, UCLA Bruins, Illinois Fighting Illini, Minnesota Golden Gophers, Northwestern Wildcats, Purdue Boilermakers and Indiana Hoosiers.
