The Big 12 descended further into chaos in Week 13 of the 2024 College Football season.
The Kansas Jayhawks beat a College Football Playoff candidate for the third consecutive week by beating Colorado (8-3, 6-2 Big 12), while BYU (9-2, 6-2 Big 12) fell to another possible conference champion in Arizona State (9-2, 6-2 Big 12).
In the last three weeks, unranked, 5-6 Kansas has beaten the Iowa State Cyclones (9-2, 6-2 Big 12), BYU Cougars, and Colorado Buffaloes.
Now, BYU, Colorado, Iowa State and Arizona State are tied atop the conference at 6-2 in Big 12 action.
In the post-Week 13 AP Poll, the Arizona State Sun Devils are the top-ranked Big 12 team at No. 14, followed by No. 17 Iowa State, No. 19 BYU and No. 23 Colorado.
Arizona State | +140 |
Iowa State | +225 |
BYU | +350 |
Colorado | +600 |
If the season ended today and the Playoff rankings were the same as the AP Poll, Arizona State would get in the Playoff automatically as Big 12 champion, forcing the committee to decide between No. 13 Alabama (8-3) and No. 12 Clemson (9-2) for the final at-large bid.
But there's still plenty to be decided in the Big 12 with a loaded Week 14 slate coming up.
Colorado hosts Oklahoma State (3-8, 0-8 Big 12) on Friday night, before Arizona State visits Arizona (4-7, 2-6 Big 12), Iowa State hosts Kansas State (8-3, 5-3 Big 12), and BYU hosts Houston (4-7, 3-5 Big 12) on Saturday.
If two of the teams tied for first place lose, then the two teams who win in Week 14 and finish the season at 7-2 in the Big 12 will play for the championship.
Beyond that, the scenarios get complicated. In case of a four-way tie for first, common opponents would be considered, which is why Arizona State and Iowa State have the shortest odds for the conference championship.
If all four teams who are tied for first lose in Week 14, there could be up to an eight-way tie for the Big 12 lead heading into conference championship weekend.
