Unrivaled 1-on-1 Tournament: Semifinal Picks, Predictions and Odds

Unrivaled’s inaugural season has hit its midway point and the Lunar Owls are atop the league with a perfect 8-0 record, followed by the Laces at 4-2.

The other four squads are bunched together with sub-.500 records.

This week, however, has been dedicated to a unique tournament, a 1-on-1 festival featuring 23 Unrivaled players competing for a $350,000 prize pool, with the winner coming away with $200K.

Two top seeds are remaining, with the Vinyl’s Arike Ogunbowale facing the Mist’s Aaliyah Edwards, while the Lunar Owls’ Napheesa Collier matches up against the Rose’s Azurá Stevens.

Edwards made the opening statement of this inaugural tournament when she blanked her Unrivaled teammate, 2024 WNBA champion, and top-seed Breanna Stewart, 12-0. She then knocked off the Lunar Owls’ Allisha Gray in the quarterfinals, 12-6.

She’ll be going up against Ogunbowale in the semifinals, arguably the best 1-on-1 player in the WNBA.

Ogunbowale knocked off former Notre Dame teammate Skylar Diggins-Smith of the Lunar Owls, 12-8, then former Dallas Wings teammate Satou Sabally of Phantom, 12-8.

The other semifinal features Collier, the best player in Unrivaled league play and the +100 favorite to win the 1-on-1 tournament entering Friday.

Collier has played three matches so far. She defeated Katie Lou Samuelson of Phantom, 12-6 and followed that with a 12-5 victory over the Mist’s Rickea Jackson.

In the quarterfinals, she knocked off Lunar Owls teammate Courtney Williams, 12-4.

Stevens is Collier’s opponent in the semifinals. She defeated Shakira Austin of the Lunar Owls, 11-4, before taking down Vinyl's Rae Burrell, 12-2, in the quarterfinal round.

Read below for experts' semifinal predictions for the Unrivaled 1-on-1 tournament.

Semifinal 1: Arike Ogunbowale ML (-130) vs. Aaliyah Edwards

Ogunbowale, the four-time WNBA All-Star who has been a standout in her six-year career with the Wings, has averaged more than 21 points over her career, including 20.8 points in 2024.

Her 1-on-1 skills are highly regarded throughout that league and have served her well so far with the Vinyl, who are currently 2-4.

Edwards, the sixth overall pick in the 2024 WNBA Draft, had a solid rookie season for the Washington Mystics, averaging 7.6 points and 5.6 rebounds.

She is fourth on the Mist in scoring and easily pulled off the 1-on-1 tournament’s biggest upset with the shutout win over Stewart.

Our experts believe Edwards’ Cinderella run ends in the semifinals, as Ogunbowale moves on.

Semifinal 2: Napheesa Collier ML (-250) vs. Azurá Stevens

Collier, the Unrivaled co-founder along with Stewart, is a four-time WNBA All-Star who was also the league’s Defensive Player of the Year while averaging 20.4 points and 9.7 rebounds.

She has destroyed the league competition to date as the Lunar Owls have comfortably jumped ahead of the pack.

Stevens has been a valuable bench player in her seven years in the WNBA, most recently with the Los Angeles Sparks, earning nominations for Sixth Woman of the Year multiple times.

Collier’s defensive pedigree wins out in this semifinal matchup.
