United States vs. Germany Women’s Basketball: Picks, Predictions and Odds

The winner of Group C in women's basketball at the Olympics will be decided by Sunday's game between the United States and Germany.

Both teams are 2-0 so far in group play and have already punched their tickets to the quarterfinals.

Still, winning the group finale is important in terms of not only securing the best possible draw for the knockout rounds but also to maintain maximum confidence.

United States vs. Germany Women betting picks and predictions 

Germany +20.5 (-110) 

Germany is a team that cannot be taken lightly by the United States.

The Germans are off to a perfect start in Paris, beating Belgium 83-69 before taking care of Japan 75-64. As expected, Satou Sabally has been outstanding for Team Germany. She scored 17 points in the opener against Belgium and then dropped 33 points on Japan.

Little sister Nyara Sabally, who also played college basketball at Oregon, added 16 on Monday. Leonie Fiebich chipped in 16 in the defeat of Belgium.

Obviously, it's tough to bet against the United States in terms of the money line – against Germany and against anyone else. The talent level is simply too good, headlined by the likes of A'ja Wilson and Breanna Stewart.

Team USA opened with a 102-76 beatdown of Japan before an unspectacular performance saw the gold medal favorites scrape past Belgium 87-74.

The Americans walloped the Germans 84-57 in a pre-Olympic showcase game, but the older Sabally sister was a horrendous 3-for-17 from the floor. No matter how well the United States plays defense, you cannot expect anywhere close to that level of futility again for Germany's best player.

Look for the underdog side to be at least somewhat competitive on Sunday. 

Under 159.5 (-110)

An under bet correlates nicely with Germany covering the spread, because the underdogs know they have to limit possessions as much as possible against a superior opponent.

The Sabally sisters and the rest of the squad should make a conscious effort to slow down the tempo and shorten the game. After all, they found out the hard way in their pre-Olympic showcase loss that you can't give up 84 points to the powerhouse Americans and expect to be competitive. For Germany, the fewer looks Team USA gets at the basket the better.

The Germans have been putting the clamps down defensively so far this week. They surrendered a modest 69 points to Belgium before limiting Japan to 64. It's also worth noting that Germany scored just 75 points, themselves, in their second outing even though Satou Sbally went for 33 points by herself.

A number of 159.5 is on the large side, giving bettors all the more reason to hammer the under.

Brenna Stewart 15+ points

Wilson and Stewart are without question the Americans' top two players. Against Belgium, they forked up 31 of their team's 65 shots (17 for Wilson and 14 for Stewart) – scoring 23 and 26 points, respectively. Stewart delivered 22 against Japan, as well, so she is averaging 24.0 ppg so far at these Olympics.

Stewart had 15 points in the recent showcase against Germany; that was in relatively limited work. Now it's the real thing. She logged 26 minutes against Japan and 35 against Belgium, so the former UConn star is getting plenty of opportunities.

This bet also correlates well with Germany +20.5, because the longer the underdogs keep it close the longer Stewart will stay on the court.
