The Lunar Owls, undefeated at 8-0, remain comfortably atop the Unrivaled League standings, three games ahead of the second-place Laces and four ahead of Friday’s opponent, the Rose.
Napheesa Collier, the league’s leading scorer at 29.3 points a game, won the inaugural 1v1 tournament, besting the Mist’s Aaliyah Edwards in the finals.
The Rose defeated the Vinyl 61-56 on Tuesday for their third straight win in which Chelsea Gray had 26 points, Angel Reese added 16 points and 15 rebounds, Brittney Sykes scored 17 points, and Azura Stevens grabbed 11 rebounds.
In addition to leading the league in scoring, Collier is second in rebounding with 11.5 boards per contest.
The four-time All-Star and two-time Olympic gold medalist had 31 points and six rebounds as the Lunar Owls defeated the Rose 79-70 earlier in the season. Allisha Gray, who’s fifth in the league in scoring at 19.5 points per game, had 21 points and nine rebounds versus the Rose.
Courtney Wiliams added 10 points and eight assists in that win. Skylar Diggins-Smith, a six-time WNBA All-Star, is going for 15.4 points per game. Collier, Gray, and Diggins-Smith are one of the most potent trios in the league.
The Rose are led by Chelsea Gray, who is scoring 17.4 points and dishing out a league-leading 5.8 assists per game. Kahleah Copper, the 2021 WNBA Finals MVP and a four-time All-Star, is adding 16.6 points per game, while Reese is fourth in the league with 10.3 rebounds per contest.
After starting the season 1-4, the Rose have won three straight. The team has already avenged two losses, defeating the Laces by 14 points and the Vinyl by six on Tuesday night.
That streak is expected to end tonight against the Lunar Owls, who are averaging a league-best 81.4 points per game, 13 points better than the second-place Rose (68.4). They also lead Unrivaled’s six teams in assists (15.9 apg), steals (5.3 spg), and turnovers (5.8 tpg).
Expect Collier and Co. to remain undefeated and cover the 6.5-point spread as favorites.
Gray and the rest of the Rose squad are one of the few teams capable of hanging with the Lunar Owls’ offense.
After losing by nine points the first time around, the team will need to use its advantage on the boards to keep pace. The Rose lead the league in both offensive rebounds (10.3) and total rebounds (36.6) per game.
These two teams surpassed 143.5 points the first go-around. Look for them to do it again on Friday evening.
