Atlanta Braves vs. Houston Astros: Picks, Predictions, Odds and Player Props

It’s a 2021 World Series rematch in Texas this week as the Atlanta Braves take on the Houston Astros.

Monday’s series opener was very close until the final few innings when the Braves pulled away as the Houston bullpen continued to struggle.

Tuesday’s matchup will feature Reynaldo Lopez starting for the visitors and Hunter Brown for the Astros.

Houston was projected to win the AL West by a solid margin over the Mariners and Rangers, but the Astros have been one of the worst teams in all of baseball in the first two weeks. The Astros have won just six of their first 18 games and nothing seems to be going right for them.

As for the Braves, they lost Spencer Strider a few days ago but haven’t skipped a beat since as they’ve won three of their last four games.

Tonight’s matchup should be a good one, so here is a preview of the game with our expert’s predictions.

Atlanta Braves vs. Houston Astros betting picks and predictions

Atlanta Braves ML (-115)

The Braves offense had a slow start to the season, but it seems to be back to normal in the last few days.

Atlanta has scored at least six runs in five of their last seven games and Marcell Ozuna has been the biggest surprise as the designated hitter has a .365 average heading into tonight’s game.

Fortunately for the Braves, they get a generous matchup against Hunter Brown.

Once compared to Justin Verlander, Brown has been one of the worst pitchers in the game this season. He has a 16.43 ERA and a 3.91 WHIP in four starts. In his last outing, he failed to get through the first inning before allowing nine runs and 11 hits.

It’s going to be hard for the Houston offense to be able to give Brown the run support he desperately needs. Plus, the Astros will be facing Reynaldo Lopez, who has been fantastic in a small sample size in 2024. He owns a 0.75 ERA with a 24.4% strikeout rate as he’s shut down the White Sox and Mets so far.

Since Lopez should have plenty of run support, back the Braves to get the job done in Houston tonight.

Over 9.5 (-105)

The primary reason for taking the over in this game is the offenses. Atlanta’s lineup is elite with plenty of home run threats while the Astros still have Jose Altuve, Yordan Alvarez, Kyle Tucker and Alex Bregman at the top of the order.

These lineups have the potential to score double-digit runs on any given night, and it wouldn’t be too surprising to see the Braves get close to 10 runs on their own.

Brown has allowed 15 runs, 23 hits, and 2 home runs in just 7.2 innings this season. He’s been hit hard by every offense he has faced, and tonight’s matchup will be his most difficult.

Once Brown and Lopez are done on the mound, it will be time for the bullpens to get involved. Another factor in going for the over is that these two bullpens rank 12th and 27th in ERA this season, so there aren’t too many reliable arms in either arm barn. Plus, both teams used at least four arms on Monday which means neither bullpen is fresh.

In a game between two high-powered offenses, back the over in game two of the series.
