Anaheim Ducks vs. Winnipeg Jets betting pick and predictions

Although the Winnipeg Jets hit a rough patch about a month ago, losing seven times in a 10-game stretch, they still sit atop the Central Division standings after going 9-4 straight up since Dec. 5.

The Jets had a four-game win streak snapped in Colorado on Tuesday, but it was the second half of a back-to-back for Winnipeg, and they started backup Eric Comrie in goal.

On Thursday, the Jets began an eight-game homestand against Anaheim, who they lost to on Dec. 18. However, that loss also came in the second half of a back-to-back for Winnipeg. This time around, the Ducks are in the midst of arguably their toughest stretch of games, at least schedule-wise. By Sunday, Anaheim will have played six games in nine days.

Additionally, while Jets goaltender Connor Hellebuyck has been off for a couple of days, Ducks starter Lukas Dostal has made five straight starts and could be fatigued.

Per Evolving Hockey, Dostal ranks second in goals saved above expected, behind only Hellebuyck, who ranks among the top five goaltenders in that category for the third straight season. Hellebuyck finished first in goals saved above expected last season and won his second Vezina Trophy in five years. The 31-year-old has won his last six consecutive starts and has gone 9-0-1 in his last 10 outings.

With Hellebuyck rested, the Jets should have the upper hand, as they have won all four meetings at home against the Ducks since the start of the 2021-22 regular season. Winnipeg has outscored the Ducks 19-5 in those games, and considering how these two teams grade out offensively this season, we should expect more of the same. Winnipeg ranks third in goals per 60 minutes, while the Ducks rank 31st.

That said, Anaheim has won two games in a row and five of its last eight. The Ducks have also been a profitable moneyline bet on the road, though they’ve only defeated one playoff team away from home. Anaheim also boasts a 24-11-0 record against the puck line this season. Therefore, I’m zeroing in on a player prop, which I believe has a higher chance of hitting than the odds suggest.

Winnipeg forward Kyle Connor went pointless in his last outing, but he had picked up multiple points in eight of 11 games prior to that. Connor has also registered two or more points in four of his last eight meetings against the Ducks, including two assists in their last meeting.

Pick: Kyle Connor 2+ Points (+145)
