Anaheim’s surprise upset over the Edmonton Oilers on Tuesday brought them within six points of a Western Conference wild card spot, and the Ducks will have another chance to gain ground when they face off against the Canucks in Vancouver on Wednesday. The Canucks are also out of the playoff picture right now, and Anaheim could deal a big blow to their chances — while improving their own — with a win. Vancouver is currently just four points ahead of Anaheim in the Pacific Division standings.

The Ducks scored four goals in the first period of Tuesday’s game to ease past the Oilers by a final score of 6-2. It was Anaheim’s first win in Edmonton since Dec. 17, 2022, and just their third win against Edmonton in the last 11 meetings. Anaheim also recently ended an eight-game losing streak versus the Canucks on Feb. 27, and on Wednesday, the Ducks can pick up their first win in Vancouver since Feb. 2, 2022. They’ve lost their last four trips to Vancouver.

The Canucks will have a rest advantage over Anaheim — Vancouver hasn’t played since March 1. However, the team has lost four of five games since returning from the break, including two in a row, and there’s still no word on whether captain Quinn Hughes will be available. Hughes suited up for the last three games following his return from injury but tweaked something on Saturday and failed to finish the game.

Regardless, I’m turning my attention to forward Leo Carlsson, who leads the Ducks in scoring since the start of February. Carlsson has 11 points in his last nine games and has registered at least one point in seven of those outings.
