Read the latest betting picks and predictions for tonight's matchup between the Anaheim Ducks (10-12-4) and Ottawa Senators (12-13-2), courtesy of our friends at Daily Faceoff.
These two teams last met on Dec. 1, with the Ducks pulling out a shootout win for their 10th victory of the season.
Since then, though, Anaheim has hit a rough patch, losing three straight games. That game also showed why it’s hard to get too excited about the Senators right now. They still haven’t separated themselves from teams like Buffalo and Detroit and remain stuck in mediocrity.
Ottawa’s numbers at even strength look great on paper — they’re top 10 in shot attempts and expected goals — but they haven’t been able to turn that into actual results. Their even-strength goal share is just outside the bottom 10, which says something isn’t clicking. After starting the season 8-7, the Senators have dropped eight of their last 12. Linus Ullmark hasn’t been bad, but he hasn’t been great either.
The bigger issue? They’ve only scored four or more goals three times in their last 18 games, and it’s tough to win with that kind of offense.
As for the Ducks, they’ve lost six of their last eight games and are now dealing with injuries to key players. Trevor Zegras has been out for the last two games, and Leo Carlsson has missed six straight, though he might return on Wednesday in Ottawa.
Anaheim also has a tough back-to-back, with a game in Toronto on Thursday. Lukas Dostal has been the Ducks’ MVP this season, and there’s a good chance he starts against the Maple Leafs, which helps explain why Ottawa is such a big favorite here. The Ducks rank as a bottom-five team in most categories, so the Senators should have a much easier time controlling this game than they did in their last meeting.
No team has allowed more shots per 60 minutes than Anaheim this season, making this a prime matchup to target players who can rack up higher shot totals.
