Anisimova beat Nina Stojanovic via retirement in the first round, although the 23-year-old New Jersey native was up by 6-3 4-1 at the time of Stojanovic's retirement.

Golubic, meanwhile, won a three-set battle against Petra Kvitova. Golubic and Anisimova have faced off once previously, when Anisimova won in three sets on a hardcourt in Chicago in 2021.
