Alabama vs. Georgia Predictions, Player Props & Best Bets

Georgia and Alabama meet Saturday in Tuscaloosa in one of the biggest games of the college football season, with both teams unbeaten and weather potentially becoming a major factor.

The matchup pits Kirby Smart’s defense against dynamic Alabama quarterback Keelon Russell, while Georgia will counter with veteran Gunnar Stockton against a Crimson Tide defense that has been better against the pass than the run.

Alabama has won five straight regular-season meetings in this rivalry, and Georgia has not won in Tuscaloosa since 2007.

With wind and rain potentially impacting the game, execution in negative-down situations could decide everything.

Georgia vs. Alabama betting picks and predictions

Alabama -1.5 (-115)

Georgia’s biggest challenge, in hostile territory and in adverse weather conditions, will be keeping Russell from turning broken plays into explosives.

He has been loose with the football at times, and Smart will undoubtedly try to disguise pressure and force him to win consistently from the pocket. Georgia’s pressure rate has improved significantly and now ranks 15th nationally, even if the Bulldogs have not always finished those pressures with sacks.

The key is creating negative plays on first and second down.

Russell will convert some third-and-longs simply because of his athleticism, but Georgia cannot allow Alabama to live in third-and-manageable situations all night.

There are still questions about the Crimson Tide offensive line. It has not been tested by a front like this, and Georgia has multiple future pros along the defensive line, plus the coverage talent to challenge Alabama’s receivers.

But the matchup cuts both ways because Georgia has not faced an offense or quarterback remotely like Russell yet.

Alabama has also been more tested overall, playing four Power Four opponents, while Georgia’s offense may not be quite as explosive as its results suggest.

Stockton ranks fourth nationally in EPA per dropback, but the profile is heavily built around short and intermediate throws. He has attempted only 30 passes traveling at least 10 air yards, completing 13 with two touchdowns and one interception.

Of his 13 touchdown passes, the average throw has traveled just 8.1 yards in the air, with his receivers creating 13.9 yards after the catch.

If the Tide can limit easy yards after the catch and force Stockton to attack vertically, Georgia has not consistently shown it can win that way.

Alabama’s home-field advantage, Russell’s improvisational ability and the Tide’s experience against stronger competition give them the slight edge.

Under 51.5 total points (-115)

The total has already fallen, and I still like the Under.

Forecasts have improved enough that the game is expected to be played, but significant wind and rain could still affect play-calling, kicking and the downfield passing game.

Georgia ranks among the slower offenses in the country in seconds per snap, and Alabama is even slower. Both teams are comfortable playing methodically, running the football and leaning on their defenses.

Georgia’s best path is controlling the game with its ground attack and avoiding obvious passing downs for Stockton.

Alabama will likely lean on Russell’s legs as an extension of its run game, especially if conditions make throwing difficult.

Georgia can create pressure without selling out, while Alabama has been stronger against the pass and has 13 takeaways through five games.

That turnover potential matters because both quarterbacks could be forced into difficult situations as the weather worsens.

Georgia’s offense has looked best when operating on schedule. Oklahoma took away the run and short passing game earlier this season, forcing Stockton deeper into his progressions, and that was Georgia’s least convincing offensive performance.

Alabama is capable of creating similar discomfort.

A game played mostly between the 20s, with long drives and few explosives, is exactly what I expect.

Keelon Russell Anytime Touchdown (+110)

Russell has rushed for a touchdown in four of Alabama’s five games. He ran for 86 yards and a score against East Carolina, 56 yards and a touchdown against Florida State, 35 yards and a score against South Carolina and 16 yards with another touchdown against Mississippi State.

His only game without a rushing score came against Kentucky, when sacks dragged his rushing total into negative territory.

Alabama does not have a truly dominant conventional rushing attack, which makes Russell an important red-zone option.

That could become even more important Saturday.

If rain and wind limit the passing game, Kalen DeBoer can build more designed quarterback runs into the game plan. Even on passing plays, Georgia’s pressure could flush Russell from the pocket and create scrambling opportunities near the goal line.
