Entering the 2025 ACC Men's Basketball Tournament, there is one question on everyone's mind: Who can beat the Duke Blue Devils?
Duke, led by potential Wooden Award winner Cooper Flagg, is heavily favored entering the tournament after going 19-1 in conference play during the regular season.
Their one ACC loss was at the Clemson Tigers, who are a distant second behind Duke in the odds.
Duke | -330 |
Louisville | +600 |
Clemson | +650 |
North Carolina | +2800 |
SMU | +6500 |
Wake Forest | +8000 |
The Duke Blue Devils (28-3, 19-1 ACC) lost just once in ACC play, have been in the top five of the AP Poll since early December, and have beaten Kentucky, Arizona and Auburn in their non-conference portion of the schedule.
Flagg has only improved throughout his first collegiate season. Since the last day of 2024, he's shooting 45.7 percent from three, and he leads the team in all major statistical categories. But he has plenty of help, as the team ranks in the top-15 nationwide in points per game, points allowed per game, assists per game, three-point percentage, field goal percentage, defensive field goal percentage and both offensive rating and defensive rating.
If not for Flagg and the Blue Devils, the Louisville Cardinals (25-6, 18-2 ACC) would have been the story of the season after rebounding from an 8-24 season last year. Head coach Pat Kelsey's team is the +600 second-favorite in the ACC Tournament, and they shoot a lot of threes, are solid on the boards and ended their regular season on a nine-game winning streak.
The Clemson Tigers (26-5, 18-2 ACC) are third in the market (+650), and they're the only ACC team to have beaten Duke this year. The Tigers shoot the three well and take care of the ball while not sending opponents to the free-throw line often. They're led by Chase Hunter, who averages 16.0 points, 2.9 rebounds, 2.6 assists and 1.4 steals while shooting 41.2 percent from three.
The North Carolina Tar Heels (20-12, 13-7 ACC), one of the most famous programs in College Basketball, are a distant fourth in the betting (+2800). They improved their play late in the campaign before their regular season ended with a 13-point home loss to Duke. Preseason Wooden Award favorite RJ Davis saw his production dip this season, but the Tar Heels were still a top-50 team in ORtg and field goal percentage.
The next tier of contenders are the SMU Mustangs (+6500) and Wake Forest Demon Deacons (+8000).
Further back, from 250/1 to 400/1, are the Florida State Seminoles, Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets, Pittsburgh Panthers, Stanford Cardinal, Virginia Cavaliers, Notre Dame Fighting Irish, Syracuse Orange, Virginia Tech Hokies and California Golden Bears.
