The 2025 PGA Championship gets underway on the morning of Thursday, May 15 from Quail Hollow Club in Charlotte, North Carolina.
American Xander Schauffele will look to replicate his success in this event a year ago, when he sunk a five-foot birdie putt on 18 to outlast Bryson DeChambeau and win his first career major championship.
Schauffele’s final 21-under score began with a stellar opening round, when he shot a 9-under 62, three strokes better than anyone else in the field.
Ahead of the 2025 PGA Championship, let’s take a look at the latest odds to be First Round Leader.
Rory McIlroy | +1200 |
Scottie Scheffler | +1200 |
Bryson DeChambeau | +1800 |
Justin Thomas | +3000 |
Jon Rahm | +3000 |
Xander Schauffele | +3000 |
Collin Morikawa | +3300 |
Ludvig Aberg | +3300 |
Joaquin Niemann | +4000 |
Patrick Cantlay | +4500 |
Tommy Fleetwood | +4500 |
Masters champion Rory McIlroy (+1400) and World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler (+1400) are joint-favorites to lead after the first round at Quail Hollow this week.
Last month, McIlroy finally broke through at Augusta National to win his first major in 11 years and complete the career grand slam.
There is no doubt a massive weight is off the shoulders of the 36-year-old, who is a two-time winner in this event (2012, 2014), and four-time winner at Quail Hollow, including at the 2024 Wells Fargo Championship.
Scheffler, meanwhile, will be looking to re-affirm his position as the world’s best golfer and win his first major not at the Masters. The two-time Green Jacket winner doesn’t have much experience at Quail Hollow, last playing the course at the 2022 Presidents Cup.
Still, the 28-year-old poses a threat to go low at any course he plays, most recently dominating the CJ Cup Byron Nelson two weeks ago with a winning score of 31-under.
Bryson DeChambeau (+1800) has arguably been the best performer in majors over the last year, finishing T6 or better in four of the last five majors including a win at the 2024 U.S. Open. Dechambeau has led after the first round at two of the last eight majors (2023 PGA Championship, 2024 Masters).
Justin Thomas, who won the PGA Championship the last time it was at Quail Hollow in 2017, is +3000 to lead after the first round alongside Jon Rahm and Schauffele.
Thomas was six strokes off the lead after the opening round back in 2017 before storming back to win the Wanamaker Trophy. As mentioned above, Schauffele led by three strokes after the first round of the 2024 PGA Championship at Valhalla.
Collin Morikawa (+3300) and Ludvig Aberg (+3300) are among the favorites to lead after the opening 18 as well.
