The reigning World Series champion Los Angeles Dodgers are the team oddsmakers have deemed as most likely to make the playoffs at -5000 to do so.

LA returns its core of reigning NL MVP Shohei Ohtani, Mookie Betts, Freddie Freeman, Yoshinobu Yamamoto, Tyler Glasnow, Tommy Edman, Max Muncy, Will Smith and Andy Pages. Plus, they signed outfielder Michael Conforto and two-time Cy Young winner Blake Snell this offseason to provide lineup depth and bolster the starting rotation, respectively.

The teams viewed as the next-most likely to make the postseason are the New York Yankees (-400), Philadelphia Phillies (-340), Atlanta Braves (-320), Baltimore Orioles (-280), New York Mets (-280) and San Diego Padres (-200).

Of those teams, the Yankees and Mets have been the most prominent in the offseason headlines.

The Mets signed superstar outfielder Juan Soto as a free agent, beating out the Yankees, who Soto helped lead to the World Series last season. The Yankees have adjusted their strategy since Soto's decision and signed ace starting pitcher Max Fried and traded for closer Devin Williams and 2019 NL MVP Cody Bellinger.

The Braves, who barely got into the playoffs as a Wild Card in 2024, are seen as a safer bet for 2025 with outfielder Ronald Acuna Jr. and ace starting pitcher Spencer Strider set to be healthy for the season. Atlanta's two stars missed most of 2024 due to injuries.

Of the 30 MLB teams, 11 are between -150 and +150 to make the playoffs. Those are the Arizona Diamondbacks, Boston Red Sox, Chicago Cubs, Cleveland Guardians, Detroit Tigers, Houston Astros, Kansas City Royals, Milwaukee Brewers, Minnesota Twins, Seattle Mariners and Texas Rangers.

Four of the five AL Central teams are in that group. Three teams from that division - the Guardians, Royals and Twins - made the playoffs, and the Tigers missed out by four games.

This offseason, KC traded for 2B Jonathan India, Cleveland traded for starting pitcher Luis Ortiz and brought back starter Shane Bieber after he missed last season due to Tommy John surgery, and the Tigers and Twins have stayed relatively still so far.

The teams seen as having an outside chance of making the playoffs are the Cincinnati Reds (+235), Pittsburgh Pirates (+225), San Francisco Giants (+225), St. Louis Cardinals (+425), Tampa Bay Rays (+280) and Toronto Blue Jays (+250).

The Reds have a promising young core led by Elly De La Cruz and Hunter Greene, the Pirates have a starting rotation including reigning Rookie of the Year Paul Skenes and Jared Jones, the Giants just signed Willy Adames, the Cards have Masyn Winn and reigning Reliever of the Year Ryan Helsley, the Rays have a strong pitching staff and talent pipeline, and the Blue Jays are built around Vladimir Guerrero Jr.

The teams with the longest odds to make the playoffs are the +3300 Chicago White Sox, +2200 Colorado Rockies, +2000 Miami Marlins, +1500 Athletics, +750 Washington Nationals and +600 Los Angeles Angels.
