The 2025 MLB regular season is almost here, and one team is heavily favored to win the National League West.
Despite the odds indicating that the league's superteam is expected to run away with the division title, three other NL West teams have the potential to make noise.
Ahead of the 2025 MLB season, let's look at the odds to win the NL West.
LA Dodgers | -700 |
ARI Diamondbacks | +850 |
SD Padres | +850 |
SF Giants | +3500 |
COL Rockies | +50000 |
The Los Angeles Dodgers (-700) are the heavy preseason favorites to win the NL West.
And it's easy to see why. This offseason, they signed wonderkid starting pitcher Roki Sasaki, two-time Cy Young Award-winning starter Blake Snell, two-time All-Star reliever Kirby Yates, and one-time All-Star outfielder Michael Conforto.
Those three join the superteam that consists of Shohei Ohtani, Mookie Betts, Freddie Freeman, Yoshinobu Yamamoto, Tyler Glasnow, Teoscar Hernandez, Max Muncy, Tommy Edman, Blake Treinen, Clayton Kershaw, and Enrique Hernandez. As a result, the 2024 World Series champions are not only NL West favorites, but they're favored to win it all again.
The Arizona Diamondbacks and San Diego Padres are tied for second in the betting (+850).
Arizona replaced first baseman Christian Walker with Josh Naylor, and they also signed 2021 Cy Young winner Corbin Burnes to be their new ace.
Ketel Marte became one of MLB's top second basemen in 2024, Corbin Carroll was red-hot in Spring Training, and their starting rotation is deep, but questions remain about their lineup beyond the group of Carroll, Marte, Naylor and shortstop Geraldo Perdomo.
San Diego lost outfielder Jurickson Profar in free agency after his breakout 2024 season, but the Padres still have Fernando Tatis Jr., Manny Machado, Xander Bogaerts, Jackson Merrill, and Luis Arraez in the lineup.
Dylan Cease, Yu Darvish and Michael King lead the Padres' starting rotation, but the question is if they have enough overall depth to make a run for a wild card spot or even the division title.
The San Francisco Giants (+3500) are fourth in the market. Shortstop Willy Adames was their marquee signing and will make a strong infield duo with third baseman Matt Chapman.
Seeing centerfielder Jung Hoo Lee stay healthy would be a huge boost after a premature end to his 2024 rookie year, and another strong season from workhorse pitcher Logan Webb is needed if the Giants want to make a postseason appearance.
The Colorado Rockies (+50000) are fifth in the NL West betting and have the longest odds of any MLB team to win its division. They still have Ezequiel Tovar and Brenton Doyle — their only players to post WAR ratings of at least 3.5 in 2024 — but there aren't many other reasons for encouragement on their roster.
