The National League East is one of Major League Baseball's most crowded divisions heading into the 2025 regular season.
The Atlanta Braves, New York Mets and Philadelphia Phillies have battled atop the division for the last half-decade, and the Mets improved their roster this offseason with the signing of superstar outfielder Juan Soto.
So, who will come out on top in what is arguably baseball's most talented division? Let's take a look a the preseason odds to win the NL East.
ATL Braves | +135 |
NY Mets | +180 |
PHI Phillies | +190 |
WAS Nationals | +12500 |
MIA Marlins | +30000 |
The Atlanta Braves enter the 2025 season as the favorites (+135) to win the NL East.
Braves ace pitcher Spencer Strider and 2023 MVP-winning outfielder Ronald Acuna Jr. missed most of the 2024 season due to injuries, causing the Braves to finish level with the Mets in second in the division. But those two are primed to return early in 2025, which could see the team return to its 2023 form when it won 104 games to win the division by a 14-game margin.
The Mets are the second-favorites (+180) to win the division after adding Soto in the offseason. The heart of their lineup will consist of Soto, Francisco Lindor, Pete Alonso and Mark Vientos, which should be one of the most formidable in baseball.
While New York's lineup will put up plenty of runs, the team is slightly lacking in the pitching department. They don't really have an ace, but Clay Holmes, Tylor Megill, Griffin Canning and Kodai Senga are all solid, and lefty David Peterson is coming off the best season of his career.
The Phillies are third in the betting to win the NL East (+190), and they're running it back with the same core group as they have for the past few seasons. Their starting pitching is solid with Zack Wheeler, Aaron Nola, Christopher Sanchez and Ranger Suarez, but the lineup is inconsistent.
Philly will hope JT Realmuto and Nick Castellanos can bounce back after down years, Alec Bohm and Bryson Stott become more consistent, and newly-signed outfielder Max Kepler provides a dependable everyday presence in the lineup.
The Washington Nationals (+12500) and Miami Marlins (+30000) are the long shots to win the division. Washington has some young talent in Dylan Crews, CJ Abrams and James Wood that should be ready to contend in a few seasons, while Miami had just two position players with a WAR rating of at least 2.0 last year.
