Dallas Mavericks superstar guard Luka Doncic entered the 2024/25 NBA regular season as the MVP favorite, but a calf injury he suffered on Christmas Day has led to a shake-up in the market.
Doncic is slated to be out at least a month with his injury, and considering he has already missed eight games, he is a virtual guarantee to fall short of the 65-game requirement for players to win NBA Awards under the Player Participation Policy.
At the time of his injury, the Mavericks star was averaging 28.1 points, 8.3 rebounds, 7.8 assists and 2.0 steals while shooting 35.4 percent from three and 46.4 percent overall.
Here, we'll take a look at the latest MVP odds after Doncic's injury.
Nikola Jokic | +125 |
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander | +140 |
Giannis Antetokounmpo | +450 |
Jayson Tatum | +1200 |
Victor Wembanyama | +8000 |
With the 2024/25 NBA regular season nearing its halfway point, Denver Nuggets center and three-time NBA MVP Nikola Jokic is the favorite to win a fourth MVP Award at +125.
In 25 games played, the Joker is averaging career-highs in points, assists, steals and three-point percentage. He has never shot over 39.0 percent from beyond the arc over the course of a season, but so far, he's shooting a league-best 50.0 percent from deep.
Oklahoma City Thunder point guard Shai Gilgeous-Alexander is just behind Jokic as the +140 second-favorite for MVP.
SGA is the star player on the team with the NBA's best net rating, and he leads OKC in points per game (31.1), assists per game (6.1) and steals per game (2.0). Plus, he leads the NBA in win shares and is one of the league's premier perimeter defenders.
Third in the odds and the last player shorter than 10/1 to win the award is Milwaukee Bucks superstar and 2024 NBA Cup MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo at +450. The two-time MVP led his team to lift the NBA Cup, and he's averaging a league-high 32.7 points with 11.6 rebounds, 6.0 assists and 1.5 blocks on 61.3 percent shooting.
Boston Celtics forward Jayson Tatum is fourth in the MVP market at +1200, with the five-time All-Star averaging 29.0 points, career-highs with 9.5 rebounds and 5.6 assists, and 1.1 steals.
San Antonio Spurs second-year phenom Victor Wembanyama is the last player shorter than 100/1 to win MVP, as he's priced at +8000. He's helped the Spurs almost double their winning percentage from last season (.268 last season to .500 through 30 games this season), and he's averaging 25.4 points, 10.2 rebounds, 3.9 assists, 4.0 blocks and 1.1 steals
