The Connecticut Sun and Minnesota Lynx meet in the semifinals of the 2024 WNBA Playoffs.
This series sees the WNBA's two best defensive teams clash. The Sun allowed a league-low 73.6 points per game, while the Lynx allowed the second-lowest average of 75.6 points per game.
These teams thrive at defending the perimeter. The Lynx allow opponents to shoot just 30.1 percent from three and they ranked second in steals with 8.6 per game, while the Sun ranked second in three-point percentage allowed (31.3 percent) and third in steals (8.2 per game).
On offense, the Lynx and Sun have different approaches.
Lynx superstar Napheesa Collier finished fifth in the league in scoring with 20.4 points per game, and she scored 38 points in Game 1 and 42 points in Game 2 of the first-round series against the Phoenix Mercury.
Four players averaged double-figure scoring for the Lynx this season, while six players averaged double digit points for the Sun.
Connecticut only finished eighth out of 12 teams in assists per game, but they still share the ball well. DeWanna Bonner takes the most shots per game at 12.8, while Collier of the Lynx averaged 16.0 attempts per game.
Although Collier is the clear offensive star in Minnesota, she has a very solid supporting cast. Kayla McBride, Courtney Williams, and Alanna Smith all averaged over 10 points, and McBride, Smith, Bridget Carleton, and Cecilia Zandalasini all shot 39.5 percent from three or better as the Lynx led the league in team three-point percentage (38.0 percent).
Connecticut, on the other hand, does most of its scoring inside the arc, although the midseason acquisition of Marina Mabrey gave them a 42.4-percent shooter from deep.
Bonner, Mabrey, Brionna Jones, DiJonai Carrington, triple-double machine Alyssa Thomas, and Tyasha Harris all score 10 points or more per game for the Sun. All six of those players average more than 1.0 steals, 3.5 rebounds and 1.5 assists.
In short, this series pits the well-rounded Sun against a Lynx team that is built around a superstar. Both teams played to their strengths in the previous series, so lets get into the odds for this compelling matchup.
