The final Grand Slam of 2024 begins at Flushing Meadows, New York, on Monday as the big names prepare to battle it out for the right to be crowned US Open champion.
The stars are out in force in the Big Apple and the men's event is dominated by the ATP's big three - Carlos Alcaraz, Jannik Sinner and Novak Djokovic - who have shared the Australian, French, Wimbledon and Olympic titles between them this season.
Alcaraz, a two-time Slam winner in 2024 at the French Open and Wimbledon, is +187 with Djokovic favored at +175 and Sinner third in the odds at +333. Alexander Zverev is the next in the market at +900.
The betting for the women's tournament is led by Aryna Sabalenka at +250 and Iga Swiatek at +350. Defending champion Coco Gauff is +850 to double up in her home Slam.
Djokovic is no stranger to making history and the Serb, who finally realised his gold medal dream in Paris at the start of August, can end a tumultuous Grand Slam season on a high by successfully defending his US Open crown.
A New York triumph would mark Djokovic's fifth US Open victory and also see him surpass Margaret Court's record haul of 24 Grand Slam singles titles, and the draw suggests he can do just that.
As second seed, Djokovic has been drawn on the opposite side to Alcaraz and Sinner which hands him an immediate advantage, and there is little else to fear from his section.
Zverev continues to churn out solid results but the German has routinely fallen short at Grand Slam level and he blew a golden chance to win this title in 2020 when losing from two sets up against Dominic Thiem.
There are some in-form rivals in Djokovic's quarter but the Serb was firing on all cylinders at the Olympics and a stop-start campaign could mean he's fresher than has often been the case in New York.
It's going to take a big effort for someone other than Alcaraz or Sinner to reach the final from the top half but, if anyone can spring a surprise at big odds, it could be Sebastian Korda.
The 24-year-old American bowed out early in Cincinnati but he'd previously claimed the Citi Open title in Washington before reaching the semifinals in Canada, so he should be ready to go after a short break.
While he's yet to make his mark at Flushing Meadows, Korda has the talent to go far in this tournament and he could upset Alcaraz should they meet at the quarterfinal stage.
Much of the focus in the women's event will be on Swiatek and Sabalenka but neither player looks their best present. Barbora Krejcikova's Wimbledon win illustrated that upsets can and do still happen on the WTA Tour.
Teenager Mirra Andreeva will surely win a Grand Slam title in the near future and it looks entirely feasible that she breaks through, or at least goes close, in New York over the next fortnight.
Andreeva is drawn in Swiatek's quarter and will likely face the Pole at some stage but she pushed her all the way in the last eight in Cincinnati having already seen off Karolina Pliskova, Emma Navarro and Jasmine Paolini.
Already a French Open semifinalist this season, Andreeva has every chance of progressing far in a women's draw which has thrown up several interesting first-round matches with a number of big names pitted against some dangerous unseeded opponents.
For another big-priced selection, take a chance on former World No. 2 Paula Badosa, who was born in Manhattan and has been getting back to top form in recent months.
Badosa has enjoyed success in the US, winning Indian Wells in 2021 and then confirming her return to prominence with a victory in Washington at the beginning of this month. She further showed her strong form with a run to the Cincinnati semifinals.
The Spaniard is drawn alongside out-of-sorts defending champion Gauff in the third quarter and looks overpriced to claim the biggest win of her career.
