2024 NHL Playoffs: Picks, Predictions for Florida Panthers vs. Boston Bruins, Colorado Avalanche vs. Dallas Stars Game 6s Friday

It's a crucial Friday night of the second round, where we are fortunate to witness two elimination games.

Both road teams are on the verge of securing their spots in their respective Conference finals.

In the East, the Florida Panthers are determined to avoid a reversal of last year’s First Round, when the Panthers came back from down 3-1 against the Boston Bruins to ultimately take Game 7.

In the West, the Dallas Stars, with a win over the Colorado Avalanche, can make it to the Conference Final for the third time in the past five seasons.

Let's get into the picks.

Florida Panthers vs. Boston Bruins Game 6 picks and predictions

The Bruins narrowly escaped elimination in Game 5, as they went down to Sunrise, Florida and took one from the Panthers in a close, 2-1 affair.

After a very quiet series – being held pointless and shotless throughout the first four games – Charlie McAvoy finally made his mark with two points, including the game-winning goal, in the Game 5 victory.

The Panthers got Jeremy Swayman'd. He was up to his old antics of Round One, where he stopped 28 of 29 shots for a .966 save percentage.

Other than Boston’s superior goaltending, the Panthers outplayed the Bruins in the second and third periods. They outshot the Bruins 25-15 in the final two frames. But the Pnathers need to get going on the powerplay. They went 0-4 in Game 5 and are 1-10 over their last two games.

The Bruins look to be getting reinforcements back as their Captain, Brad Marchand, is a game-time decision for tonight's do-or-die game.

But it might be too late. This Florida Panthers team doesn't go down easy in the Playoffs, as they only lost back-to-back games three times during last year's run to the Stanley Cup Final. They don't want to give the B’s any sort of ammunition that they can use to do what the Panthers did to them last playoffs: come back from down 3-1.

However, I think the Bruins' centre depth is going to catch up to them this late in the series, so I've got to side with the Florida Panthers to close out the series tonight.

Florida Panthers ML -155

Under 5.5 Goals -130

Matthew Tkachuk Over 3.5 Shots on Goal -120

Matthew Tkachuk has cleared this line in three of five games this series, averaging 4.0 shots on 6.2 shot attempts per game. He has cleared in seven of his last 10 games throughout this playoff run, averaging 4.1 shots on 6.8 shot attempts per game. Boston is allowing the most shots on goal to right-wingers this playoffs, averaging 9.3 shots per game. Against the Bruins in the regular season, he cleared in two of four games, 3.8 shots on 6.0 shot attempts per game.

Taking Tkachuk's average against the Bruins and filtering it to his road splits on the season, he has cleared at an 81% clip when he sees 6+ shot attempts on the road this season, averaging 5.3 shots on goal. On the road this playoffs, Tkachuk has cleared in three of four games, averaging 4.8 shots on 7.5 shot attempts.

Tkachuk doesn't miss this shot on goal line in two straight often. In this Playoffs, he missed twice before the last game; how has he responded? He registered six shots on 10 shot attempts and five shots on eight shot attempts. Let's hope for his average road performance of six-shot attempts for Tkachuk, and he should have no problem cashing this over.

Colorado Avalanche vs. Dallas Stars Game 6 betting picks and predictions

The Dallas Stars had an opportunity to handle their business with two separate leads in the first and second periods. But they could not hold on as they allowed three straight in the late second/early third, and now they're headed back to Colorado.

This Avalanche team has a lot of noise around them. Whether it's about injured players, poor goaltending from Alexandar Georgiev, quiet nights from their big three, or the upsetting Valeri Nichushkin news, there are just a lot of distractions right now.

I think Game 4 was a nice win from the bunch, with positivity around all the noise. They got decent goaltending from Georgiev, the big three had statement games, and Jonathan Drouin got on the scoresheet after returning from his injury.

But the Stars are back on the road. Dallas is 4-1 on the road this playoffs and has doubled its opponents' scores, outscoring them 16-8. This shouldn't be a shock to anybody, as the Stars' 26-10-5 road record was the best in the regular season, and they're continuing this in the playoffs.

And that impressive road record is all led by their goaltender, Jake Oettinger. He had an 18-6 road record in the regular season with a 2.67 GAA and a .912 S%. His numbers are even better in the playoffs, as he has a 1.33 GAA and a .955 S% in five games. Those numbers from the Oetter are pretty hard to ignore.

Dallas Stars Team Total Over 2.5 Goals -190

Wyatt Johnston Over 2.5 Shots on Goal & Wyatt Johnston Point - Same Game Parlay (+125)

We're utilizing the awesome Same Game Parlay that we offer to get a plus-money play on this game's favorite props.

Wyatt Johnston has cleared this line in only two of five games this series, but those two have been in his most recent games, averaging 5.5 shots on 10.0 shot attempts. During this playoff run, Johnston has covered this line in seven of 12 games, averaging 3.5 shots on 7.8 shot attempts per game.

Johnston is a road warrior, as he has gone over his shot line in thirteen of his last fifteen games, averaging 4.5 shots on 7.9 shot attempts. The Stars' number one centreman, Roope Hintz, missed the previous game with an injury. This meant a spike in time-on-ice for Johnston, going from 17:24 minutes per game with Hintz in the lineup to 20:29 in Game 5.

The youngster has been a surprise for this Stars team in this playoff run. He leads the team with seven goals and is third with 11 points. He's scored four points in five games this series and seven of 12 this playoffs.

Johnston has registered a point and cleared his shots on goal line in five of seven games this playoffs. Let's hope he can get it done again tonight.
