The wide receiver position is as deep as it has ever been in the NFL, and there are plenty of candidates who could lead the league in receiving yards in the 2024 regular season.
Last year's receiving yards leader, Tyreek Hill of the Miami Dolphins, enters 2024 as the favorite to repeat that accomplishment.
Hill is set to be pitted against some of the same receivers who rivaled him on last year's receiving yards leaderboard, as well as a few notable names who weren't among last season's leaders for various reasons.
Tyreek Hill | +600 |
CeeDee Lamb | +700 |
Ja'Marr Chase | +900 |
Justin Jefferson | +900 |
Amon-Ra St. Brown | +1000 |
AJ Brown | +1200 |
Puka Nacua | +1200 |
Chris Olave | +1600 |
Davante Adams | +1600 |
Garrett Wilson | +1600 |
Michael Pittman | +1800 |
Miami Dolphins wide receiver Tyreek Hill led the NFL in receiving yards in 2023 with 1,799, marking both his second-straight 1,700-yard season and his second-straight season averaging over 100 yards per game.
Hill plays in one of the league's most dynamic offenses under head coach Mike McDaniel, and he catches passes from a talented quarterback in Tua Tagovailoa.
Two things may hold him back this season. He turned 30 in March, and the last time a player 30 or older led the league in receiving yards was when Muhsin Muhammed did it in 2004 at age 31. Also, Hill ranked lower in yards after catch per reception than the likes of DJ Moore, Amon-Ra St. Brown, Puka Nacua and Dolphins teammate Jaylen Waddle in 2023.
Dallas Cowboys wide receiver CeeDee Lamb was the top target on the NFL's best offense in terms of points scored in the 2023 season. The Cowboys offense in 2024 will be very similar in terms of personnel, which sets Lamb up for another great season.
Lamb finished second in receiving yards with 1,749 last season and he finished third in yards per game with 102.9. He finished 28th among receivers and 67th among all players in yards after catch per reception with 5.0, lower than Kendrick Bourne, Diontae Johnson and Rondale Moore, among others.
If Lamb gets a similar number of targets as last year and can bump up his yards after catch numbers, he'll have a great shot at picking up the most receiving yards.
The 2023 campaign was something of a write-off for the Cincinnati Bengals, as star QB Joe Burrow entered the season with a nagging calf injury and saw it ended prematurely with a wrist injury. As a result, WR Ja'Marr Chase did not build upon his first two NFL seasons as some might have expected.
Chase still made it to his third Pro Bowl in three seasons last year and had a career-high with 100 receptions, but he posted a career-low with seven touchdowns. He finished 20th among receivers in 2023 with 5.4 yards after catch per reception.
Still yet to reach his prime at 24 years old, Chase will be motivated to make the most of having a healthy quarterback. Plus, Cincy's second receiver, Tee Higgins, requested a trade in the offseason and has his future in doubt, meaning Chase could see even more of the ball.
Minnesota Vikings All-Pro wide receiver Justin Jefferson battled a hamstring injury that held him out of seven games in 2023, and he still gained 1,074 receiving yards on the season after leading the NFL in the stat in 2022. Five of the games he played were without then-Vikings starting QB Kirk Cousins as he was out with a torn Achilles.
This season, the Vikings face uncertainty at the quarterback position. It is thought that Sam Darnold will begin the season as the starter with rookie 10th-overall draft pick JJ McCarthy potentially taking over down the line.
That means the Vikings could draw up schemes with short passing options, and that could hurt Jefferson, who finished 2023 with fewer yards after catch per reception and a longer average depth of target than most of the players on this list. Despite that, he has enough talent to cope with any changes and continue to thrive.
Detroit Lions wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown has increased his receptions, receiving yards and receiving touchdowns in each of his three NFL seasons.
He was won of four Lions players to score 10 touchdowns last season, and that was the first time four players had scored 10 TDs in a season since the 2013 Denver Broncos. Despite being surrounded by so much talent that could take away touches from him, St. Brown still gained 1,515 receiving yards, third-most in the league.
St. Brown was 106th in the NFL in average depth of target in 2023, and he was 48th in yards after catch per reception. But he carried a heavy load with 119 receptions, joint-second-most in the league, which helped him finish third in receiving yards and could make a difference in 2024.
