2024 NBA Playoffs: Eastern Conference Winner Odds

The Boston Celtics are the heavy favorites to win the Eastern Conference in the 2024 NBA Playoffs.

The Celtics posted a league-best 64-18 record to seal home-court advantage throughout the playoffs, and they lost just four home games over the course of the regular season.

The Boston Celtics took a 1-0 series lead over the Indiana Pacers in a Game 1 contest that went to overtime after the Pacers decided not to intentionally foul late in regulation.

As a result, the Celtics' odds have shortened from -800 before the series to -1300 after Game 1.

With three players scoring over 20 points per game, a net rating comparable to the 1995/96 Chicago Bulls, and enough depth so that they can have five legitimate scoring threats on the floor at all times, it's no surprise the Celtics are such heavy favorites to come out of the East.

Coach Joe Mazzulla likes his players to find space on the court and take advantage of one-on-one matchups. The question is whether the team can adjust if players are unable to cope with the extra physicality and effort from opponents - especially on defense - in the playoffs.

The Celtics beat the Miami Heat and Cleveland Cavaliers to get to the Conference Finals. All five of their starters average over 10 points in these playoffs, but questions remain about the health of Kristaps Porzingis and his calf injury.

Indiana, led by head coach Rick Carlisle, led the NBA in scoring in the regular season. Like the Celtics, they shoot and make lots of threes but primarily space the floor to open up the paint and get easy baskets.

The Pacers got past the New York Knicks in seven games in the second round after they beat the Milwaukee Bucks in the first - both the Knicks and Bucks were hampered by injuries to key players.
