In 2024, Boston Celtics forward Jaylen Brown was announced as the winner shortly after the Celtics sealed the series win in Game 4 of their series against the Indiana Pacers.
Nine members of the media voted on the Eastern Conference Finals MVP Award, and the player with the most votes won the award.
National media members Tim Bontemps, Doris Burke, PJ Carlesimo, John Schuhmann, Dennis Scott, Joe Vardon and Jeff Zillgitt voted, as did one media member from each team's local market - Dustin Dopirak of The Indianapolis Star and Gary Washburn of The Boston Globe.
Brown won the voting with five votes, while Jayson Tatum received the other four votes.
The winner of the Eastern Conference Finals MVP Award earns the Larry Bird Trophy. The Western Conference Finals MVP trophy is named after Bird's Western Conference rival, Magic Johnson.
Both Conference Finals MVP trophies are silver with a basketball at the top of a pedestal, and the NBA says they are made to look similar to the league's conference championship trophies.
