2024 NBA Draft First Overall Pick Odds

The Atlanta Hawks won the 2024 NBA Draft Lottery despite having just a three percent chance to win, so attention turns to who they will select with the first overall pick.

The 2024 draft class is not highly regarded compared to recent years, with international prospects Zaccharie Risacher and Alex Sarr expected to be among the first two selections, followed by a crop of talented but unproven college players, including several from the back-to-back champion Connecticut Huskies.

Let's take a look at the favorites to be selected first overall in next Wednesday's first round.

Zaccharie Risacher, a 19-year-old French prospect who last played for JL Bourg in France's top league LNB Pro A, is the new favorite to go first overall.

Risacher, who is classified as a 6-9/10 small forward, recently won the Rising Star Award at the EuroCup - the second tier of Europe's continental basketball competition.

Right behind him is the prospect many have perceived as the No. 1 pick, another 19-year-old Frenchman Alexandre Sarr.

Sarr has jumped around in his young career, playing for U.S.-based Overtime Elite, YNG Dreamerz, and most recently the NBL’s Perth Wildcats. The 7-foot center averaged 9.7 PPG and 4.4 RPG in 24 games for Perth this season.

UConn teammates and 2024 national champions Donovan Clingan and Stephon Castle are also expected to be selected among the top few picks, with Clingan a late riser to potentially go No. 1.

Clingan has shot up draft boards in recent weeks due to his size – the CT native is 7-foot-2 – and ability to make an impact on both ends of the floor, something he showed plenty of as UConn rolled to back-to-back national titles with Clingan at the five.

Castle is leaving UConn after an impressive freshman season in which he averaged 11.1 points on 47.2 FG%. But where the 19-year-old really excels is on the defensive end. At 6-foot-6, he has the traits to become an elite defensive guard in the NBA.
