2024 MLB World Series Odds: Philadelphia Phillies now +310 favorites

The Philadelphia Phillies have overtaken the Los Angeles Dodgers as favorites to win the World Series.

The Phillies are now +310 to go all the way, while the Dodgers have fallen to +340.

Philly entered the season with +1100 World Series odds while LA was +375 heading into Opening Day.

The Dodgers, who signed NL MVP favorite Shohei Ohtani in the offseason, had been favorites from the beginning of the season before they were overtaken by the Phillies. The odds shift comes on the heels of Dodgers ace Tyler Glasnow being ruled out for the rest of 2024, but the Phillies' strong play certainly had a substantial role in the change.

Philadelphia posted an MLB-best 62-34 record in the first half of the season and eight Phillies players made the All-Star Game: Bryce Harper, Trea Turner, Alec Bohm, Jeff Hoffman, Christopher Sanchez, Matt Strahm, Ranger Suarez and Zack Wheeler.

The team hit a rough patch right after the All-Star Break with 16 losses in 22 games between mid-July and mid-August. It has since turned things around, going 16-5 in their last 21 contests with series wins over the Kansas City Royals, Houston Astros, Atlanta Braves, Toronto Blue Jays, Tampa Bay Rays and New York Mets.

The second half of the campaign has been a little odd for the Phils. There was the drop-off in performance after the All-Star Break, then the fact that Harper did not hit a home run between August 9 and September 14 while still posting an OPS of .860 in that time frame.

Plus, players on the fringe of the roster - Weston Wilson, Kody Clemens, Cal Stevenson, Buddy Kennedy - have contributed in big ways. Wilson has a .859 OPS in 81 plate appearances, Clemens has filled in all over the field, Stevenson had a game-winning two-RBI double to beat the Rays recently, and Kennedy's RBI double tied up the score in a September 15 game against the Mets that the Phils eventually won.

One thing to look out for is the team's pitching. The Phillies have allowed nine or more runs four times since the beginning of September. Aaron Nola, who the team signed to a big contract extension in the offseason, started two of those games.

Still, this is a deep team that has made long playoff runs in recent seasons, losing in the 2022 World Series and in the 2023 NLCS. Will the Phillies get over the final hurdle this year?
