The New York Mets visit the Milwaukee Brewers for a best-of-three series in the Wild Card round of the 2024 MLB Playoffs, and the series begins one day after the Mets clinched a playoff spot in a dramatic doubleheader.
The Brewers won the NL Central, while the Mets had to win one game in a doubleheader against the Atlanta Braves on Monday, which was rescheduled due to a hurricane that swept through Georgia.
Now, the Mets visit the Brewers for the Wild Card round and the first team to win two games will play the Philadelphia Phillies in the NLDS.
For Milwaukee, losing outfielder Christian Yelich to a season-ending injury late in the campaign hurts their chances of making a playoff run, but their lineup is full of solid hitters and five starters - William Contreras, Rhys Hoskins, Willy Adames, Joey Ortiz and Jackson Chourio - finished the season with an OPS above .720.
The Mets have been led by shortstop Francisco Lindor, while third baseman Mark Vientos had a nice season with 27 home runs and a .837 OPS and first baseman Pete Alonso hit 34 home runs.
But New York's run prevention has lacked slightly, as their 4.3 runs allowed per game is the highest out of the six NL playoff teams. The Brewers, on the other hand, allowed the fourth-fewest runs per game (3.96) of any MLB team in the regular season.
That said, the Mets fared better in one-run games (28-16 win-loss record in such contests) than the Brewers (28-25) did.
Ahead of the series, let's look at the odds for Mets-Brewers in the Wild Card round.
