Longtime NL East rivals meet in the NLDS as the New York Mets face the Philadelphia Phillies.
These are two teams that traveled on opposite trajectories on either side of the All-Star Break.
The Phillies started the season looking like the best team in MLB by far, going 62-34 in the first half and seeing eight players named as All-Stars. The Mets, on the other hand, were average at 49-46.
Then, the script flipped. Philly went 33-33 after the break, and the Mets went 40-27 including a 17-9 record in September.
The Mets earned a Wild Card berth and beat the Milwaukee Brewers in three games, and first baseman Pete Alonso's three-run home run played a deciding role in Game 3. The Phillies managed to hold on to take the No. 2 seed and a first-round bye.
Although the Mets have all the momentum entering this matchup, the Phillies can find something of a silver lining in their 7-6 record against them this season.
