Bryson DeChambeau posted an impressive seven-under 65 in his opening round at the 2024 Masters, and is now second-favorite to win outright behind Scottie Scheffler.
At the time of writing, DeChambeau leads The Masters by three strokes after carding -7 with eight birdies and one bogey. The American is now +475 to win his first Green Jacket, second in the betting behind pre-tournament favorite Scottie Scheffler (+275).
DeChambeau was +3300 to win outright before the tournament began.
DeChambeau, who left the PGA Tour for LIV Golf in June 2022, teed off at 11:18 AM ET on Thursday morning after rainy conditions delayed all tee times by roughly two hours.
The 30-year-old got off to a red-hot start, rolling in three-consecutive birdies to start his round. His only bogey of the day came on the par-four 9th, from which he rebounded with a sensational five-under 31 on the back-nine, including three birdies in his final four holes.
DeChambeau sits atop the leaderboard for now, but has a long way to go before even thinking about winning golf's biggest prize. His best finish at Augusta National came back in 2016, when he finished tied for 21st.
