First handed out to Argentina’s Oscar Furlong in 1950, the FIBA Basketball World Cup MVP is awarded to the most valuable player to his team over the course of the tournament.

All-time greats Kevin Durant, Dirk Nowitzki, and Shaquille O’Neal are among the list of past winners of the award, while Spain’s Ricky Rubio was the last recipient in 2019.

Edwards was tabbed as ‘the guy’ ahead of the tournament by Team USA head coach Steve Kerr.

While the Minnesota Timberwolves is only averaging 16.3 PPG in three games this tournament, he is expected to be Team USA’s leading shot-taker through the knockout rounds.
