Australian Football: Zadkovich takes positives from Reds defeat

Perth Glory interim boss Ruben Zadkovich was proud of his players as they put in a battling display when losing 2-0 against Adelaide United on Sunday.

The defeat means that Glory have picked up the first wooden spoon in the club’s history but Zadkovich was keen to focus on the positives after a tough few weeks.

Injury-ravaged Glory

Glory have had to contend with injury and sickness that has ripped through the camp meaning that Zadkovich has been fielding a youth team pretty much.

Not only that they have had a tough schedule which has seen them play a lot of games in a short space of time. Most of them interstate.

However they still managed to put in a solid performance against high-flying Adelaide and on another night may have salvaged a point.

Trailling 1-0 they had a goal ruled out by VAR on 72 minutes and then missed other opportunities to equalise before Adelaide made it 2-0 deep in stoppage time.

Proud Zadkovich

For once Glory had managed to get some solid training in leading in to the game and Zadkovich felt that also made a difference.

"I'm extremely proud of their effort and the way they went about their business tonight,," he said. "I definitely think the week helps us, we could work on some defensive principles and our shape and I thought the young guys applied them really well.

"If you're on the road, playing a game every three days against A-League quality opposition with a youth team, then those extra three sessions really do help. We were barely getting one session in, in between those games."
