Australian Football: Western back with a bang

Western United boss John Aloisi saluted his players for bouncing back to winning ways with a resounding 6-0 win over a depleted Perth Glory on Saturday.

Western are pushing to win the A-League grand final and are back on track following last week’s surprise 4-1 defeat against Wellington Phoenix.

Wales hat-trick

Lachie Wales was the hero for Western with a hat-trick, while further goals from Dylan Pierias, Aleksandar Prijovic, and Dylan Wenzel-Halls completed the rout.

It was the perfect response to the defeat against Nix and following a run of just one win in five games the three points were badly needed.

"All in all, it was a great reaction from last week's loss," said Aloisi. "You could see that they were embarrassed about last week and they wanted to put it right."

On to Macarthur

Western are now back on course and chasing the minor premiership. They sit five points behind leaders Melbourne City but have two games in hand.

Aloisi is urging his players to keep going and wants another result when they face Macarthur in Tasmania on Tuesday.

"We have got a big game on Tuesday. That's the one that we are looking at on Tuesday, we don't want to look too far ahead," Alosi added.

"We wanted to be in this position at the start of the season and we knew we would have to work hard to put ourselves in this position."
