Weekend Preview: Edinburgh to kick-start weekend clashes

All eyes will be on Edinburgh for the first two games of this week's Scottish Premiership schedule with Hibernian and Hearts in action at home.

While there's clashes in the Leith and Gorgie areas of the Scottish capital, there are also big games in Motherwell and Glasgow to look forward to on Saturday.

Hibs determined to narrow the gap

What:Hibernian v St Johnstone
Where:Easter Road, Edinburgh
When19:30, Friday 21st October 2022
How to watch:N/A
Odds: Hibernian 13/20, Draw 14/5, St Johnstone 19/4

Hibernian have the opportunity to close the gap on second-place Rangers to five points if they can claim the win on home soil against St Johnstone on Friday night.

After an impressive run of four consecutive Premiership wins, Lee Johnson's side have lost their way of late with back-to-back defeats to Dundee United and Celtic.

Former Bristol City boss Johnson will be determined to see a response from his side after a 6-1 loss to the reigning champions at Celtic Park last weekend.

Hibs should fancy their chances of getting back to winning ways, against a St Johnstone side that are currently on a three-game losing streak.

Saints have lost four of their last five away games in the Premiership and are once again underdogs for their trip to the capital.

Hoops can add to Hearts' woes

What:Hearts v Celtic
Where:Tynecastle Park, Edinburgh
When12:30, Saturday 22nd October 2022
How to watch:Sky Sports Football
Odds: Hearts 9/1, Draw 4/1, Celtic 1/3

Hearts are having a rough patch of form at present and the last thing the Jam Tarts would have wanted is a game against the Premiership frontrunners Celtic.

Hearts have lost four of their last five outings in all competitions and face a Celtic side who will be on a high after dismantling Hibs last time out in the league.

Recent results don't make happy reading for Hearts fans against Celtic, having lost all of their last five meetings with the Glasgow outfit.

However, Hearts will potentially take heart from their shock 2-1 defeat of Ange Postecoglou's side at Tynecastle at the start of last season in the Premiership. Another major upset is available at 9/1 for a home win on Saturday.

Aberdeen battling to be best of the rest

Where:Fir Park, Motherwell
When15:00, Saturday 22nd October 2022

Odds: Motherwell 7/4, Draw 9/4, Aberdeen 13/8

Aberdeen are one of the sides challenging to be the 'best of the rest' outside of the Old Firm sides as they make the trip to Motherwell on Saturday.

The Dons find themselves just one point behind third-place Hibs heading into the weekend's games after a positive run of form.

Three wins in their last four games in all competitions have seen Aberdeen get their campaign back on track after a 3-1 defeat at Hibernian on 17th September.

Motherwell are on a poor run of three consecutive defeats at present but they do have a good recent record against the Dons.

The Well are unbeaten in their last five games against the Reds and are 7/4 to make it back-to-back wins against the Dandies this weekend.

Rangers still searching for rhythm

What:Rangers v Livingston
Where:Ibrox Stadium, Glasgow
When15:00, Saturday 22nd October 2022
How to watch:N/A
Odds: Rangers 1/6, Draw 7/1, Livingston 14/1

After a couple of unconvincing performances from Giovanni van Bronckhorst's Rangers, the Dutch tactician will be looking for a more accomplished display against Livingston.

Gers scrapped their way past Motherwell last weekend at Fir Park, before edging past Dundee 1-0 in the League Cup in midweek.

As for Livingston, they ended a two-match losing streak last time out thanks to a 1-0 win on home soil against St Johnstone.

Livi will be up against it on Saturday, having failed to win any of their last 15 games against Rangers.

The Light Blues have won 14 of those last 15 encounters and the hosts are 7/5 to win with a -2 goal handicap at Ibrox this weekend.
