Wednesday’s Sport: T20 cricket and Champions League action on the way

T20 World Cup cricket and more group stage action from the Champions League dominate the sporting landscape on Wednesday.

ATP Tour tennis continues in both Vienna and Salzburg, while there are also five race meetings available to watch on our Sports Live Streaming platform - with action coming from Nottingham, The Curragh, Chepstow and Fakenham in the afternoon, before Kempton follows in the early evening.

But we start with T20 action in the morning and New Zealand will hope to make it two wins from two at the World Cup when they face Afghanistan.

New Zealand put down a real marker in the opening game of the tournament with an 89-run victory over hosts Australia. It was a statement victory for the Black Caps against their old rivals and should give them a springboard for the remainder of their Super 12 encounters.

Afghanistan disappointed in their opening game against England with a five-wicket defeat to Matthew Mott’s side in Perth.

The Afghans can’t afford to fall too far behind if they are to have ambitions of reaching the quarter-finals and will need to be accurate with bat and ball to overcome this talented Black Caps side.

Liverpool will be looking to bounce back once again after a 1-0 defeat to Nottingham Forest when they make the trip to Ajax on Wednesday night in the Champions League.

The Reds have had plenty of ups and downs already this season but a defeat at the City Ground on Saturday was another setback to their Premier League ambitions.

Jurgen Klopp’s side have fared better in the Champions League this season and a point in Amsterdam would see them secure their place in the knockout stages.

There is more British interest elsewhere on Wednesday, with Rangers looking for their first points in the Champions League this season when they make the trip to Napoli.

Meanwhile, Tottenham will also be looking to bounce back after their loss to Newcastle United at the weekend when they host Sporting Lisbon in north London.
