The Champions League round of 16 action continues on Wednesday with two more first-leg ties, as Chelsea head to Germany to take on Borussia Dortmund, while Club Brugge entertain Benfica.

Chelsea have been struggling for form and wins over recent months and they may be in for a tough evening at Signal Iduna Park against a Dortmund side seemingly at their free-flowing best.

Brugge were one of the surprise packages of the group stage and the Belgian champions will be hoping to spring another surprise against a Benfica team that saw one of their star players, Enzo Fernandez, depart for Chelsea during the January transfer window.

It is easy to forget that Chelsea topped their Champions League group, as they recovered from a slow start to win their final four matches to finish three points clear of nearest rivals AC Milan.

However, since beating Dinamo Zagreb on Matchday Six, the Blues have only won two of their last 12 matches across all competitions, a run that has seen them fall well of the pace in the battle for a top-four finish in the Premier League and seemingly increase the pressure on head coach Graham Potter.

Potter appears to have the backing of the Chelsea hierarchy for now, but with the Blues priced at 14/1 in the To Finish in Top Four market in the Premier League, it would seem their best chance of qualifying for next season's Champions League is by winning this year's competition.

Chelsea are 14/1 in the To Win Outright Champions League market, but negotiating their way past Dortmund could be tough, especially when you consider the Blues have failed to win any of their last eight away matches across all competitions.

As many as nine first teamers could be unavailable to Potter for Wednesday's match due to injury, including Raheem Sterling (knee), N'Golo Kante (hamstring) and Mateo Kovacic (calf), while the likes of former Dortmund star Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and January signing Benoit Badiashile are ineligible after not being named in Chelsea's 25-man Champions League squad.

Dortmund hitting their stride

Dortmund booked their place in the knockout stages after finishing second in Group G behind Manchester City, but their form over the first half of the season was largely inconsistent.

When the draw was made for the last 16, Chelsea may have been reasonably pleased, but it appears Dortmund have now hit their stride, winning all six of their matches since the World Cup break and scoring 17 goals in the process.

England international Jude Bellingham has been key to that success and one or two Premier League teams will have their eye on the midfielder during this tie as he looks to add to the four goals he has already scored in the Champions League this season.

Bellingham is 9/2 in the Anytime Scorer market on Wednesday, but fellow youngster Youssoufa Moukoko will miss this match and next month's second leg after suffering ankle ligament damage in Dortmund's Bundesliga victory over Werder Bremen at the weekend.

Moukoko's absence will be a concern for BVB, as will their record against Premier League opposition, as they have failed to win any of their last 10 meetings with English teams, losing eight of those games.

However, Edin Terzic's side have only lost four of their last 21 home games in the Champions League and they are 29/20 in the Full Time Result Market to take a lead into the second leg.

Club Brugge were European Cup finalists in 1978 but this is the first time they have made it through to the knockout stages of the continent's premier club competition in the Champions League era after they finished second in Group B, six points ahead of both Bayer Leverkusen and Atletico Madrid.

Brugge kept five clean-sheets during the group stage - the most in this season's competition - but despite their European heroics, head coach Carl Hoefkens was relieved of his duties at the end of the year following some poor domestic form.

A familiar face was brought in to replace Hoefkens in former Fulham and Bournemouth head coach Scott Parker, although he is yet to set the world alight, drawing five and winning just one of his seven games in charge to date.

Friday's draw with Union Saint-Gilloise leaves Blauw-Zwart 20 points behind leaders Genk in the Jupiler Pro League and, given they are already out of the domestic cup competition in Belgium, all their eggs appear to be in the Champions League basket.

Parker's men are 10/3 in the Full Time Result market to secure a first-leg advantage on Wednesday, but they may need former Benfica striker Roman Yaremchuk to play well if they are to achieve that feat - the Ukrainian has only scored twice since joining Brugge last summer but he is 15/4 in the Anytime Scorer market.

Benfica weakened but still a threat

Benfica produced some late drama during the group stage, as they not only easily beat Juventus to qualification, but they also pipped Paris Saint-Germain to top spot in Group H on away goals scored after thrashing Maccabi Haifa 6-1 in their final group fixture.

Since then, the Eagles have maintained their position at the top of the Primeira Liga in Portugal, but their squad has been weakened by the big-money departure of World Cup winning midfielder Fernandez to Chelsea.

Champions League quarter-finalists last season, Roger Schmidt will be hoping his side can reach the last eight once again and they are 1/5 in the To Qualify market with Brugge 10/3.

Taking a victory back to Lisbon would certainly enhance Benfica's chances of progressing - they are 5/6 in the Full Time Result market - and their record against Belgian opposition is strong, as they have only lost one of their previous 14 such matches.
