NRL: Walker shines in Roosters win

Trent Robinson saluted the performances of Sam Walker and Luke Keary following the Roosters' win over Manly and says there is even more to come from the halves pairing.

The Roosters are out to win the 2022 NRL grand final and bounced from a round-one loss to the Knights to brush aside Manly 26-12 on Friday night.

First-half domination

The Roosters were devastating in the first-half and the combination of Walker and Keary was one of the highlights as they lead 22-0 at the break.

Robinson says a few words were said during the week in the build up to the game at the SCG and was delighted to see it pay off on the pitch.

"They all had really good conversations during the week and knew whose role was which, Robinson told reporters after the game.

"We saw that when Sammy ran it in midfield and got tackled on one of the first sets and on the second set, he's ended up setting up that try running again.

"That's that subtle difference on the five-eighth compared to the organisation of the half. I felt like they did that well."

Manly fightback

The Sea Eagles made a game of it in the second half and reduced the deficit to 10 points at one stage. But coach Des Hasler says the damage had already been done.

"We knew they were going to come out of the blocks and we didn't match that," Hasler said.

"We have got to manufacture that start better and that way you can do something about the momentum with the ball."
