Australian Football: Victory ace wary of Mariners threat

Melbourne Victory ace Nick D'Agostino says they will not underestimate Central Coast Mariners when the two sides clash for a third time on Wednesday night.

Victory are out to finish in the top six of the A-League and have rediscovered some good form after winning their last two games.

Close encounters

Victory have already faced Central Coast on two occasions this season and have come out on top on both occasions.

They beat Nick Montgomery's men in the FFA Cup final when running out 2-1 winners and then two weeks later they beat them 1-0 in an A-League encounter.

Victory win comes at a cost

The Mariners have slipped to 10th on the A-League ladder with 14 points from 13 games but D'Agostino knows Victory will be in for a tough game.

"We have had a couple of tough battles," he told reporters ahead of the game. "They come out and fight for every ball and opportunity and we have got to match that - and if we can match that, then our quality can definitely show in the end.

"They're very, very tough to try and break down and they have got some quality players in attack, they have got a lot of firepower up front, and obviously good young defenders as well. We know we're up for a battle."

D'Agostino on form

Meanwhile D'Agostino is starting to hit form following his move from Perth Glory at the start of the season and he bagged a brace in the 3-1 win over Macarthur in the last game.

He now has six goals and is ticking along nicely.

"I came here to work hard and put myself in that starting contention every week and I think I am slowly doing that now," he added. "I have had some good performances but I want to keep the consistency.

"That is the main part, just being consistent, scoring week-in, week-out and playing well and helping the team as much as possible."
