Tuesday's Sport: Last-16 spots up for grabs in Qatar

There are four more World Cup matches to look forward to on Tuesday as Groups A and B come to a conclusion with seven teams chasing four last-16 berths.

Hosts Qatar are the only team involved in Tuesday’s action that cannot progress to the knockout stages, while England and Netherlands will be keen to confirm their places in the last 16 with minimum fuss.

The World Cup is not the only sporting action currently taking place though as there are race meetings at Southwell, Ayr, Wolverhampton and Lingfield to look forward to while Snooker’s Scottish Open continues in Edinburgh. As ever all the action can be followed on bet365's Sports Live Streaming platform.

Dutch to add to Qatar's woes

What: Netherlands v Qatar, World Cup 2022, Group A
Where: Al Bayt Stadium, Akl Khor
When: 15:00, Tuesday 29th November 2022
How to watch: ITV1
Odds: Netherlands 1/5, Draw 6/1, Qatar 14/1

Qatar have looked out of their depth in each of their Group A matches so far and, although the Dutch have not been particularly impressive, they should be far too strong for the hapless hosts.

Cody Gakpo has been one of the Netherlands’ stars in the tournament and he opened the scoring in the 2-0 victory against Senegal and 1-1 draw with Ecuador. He is 11/2 to do the same again against Qatar.

Impressive Ecuador can progress

What: Ecuador v Senegal, World Cup 2022, Group A
Where: Khalifa International Stadium, Al Rayyan
When: 15:00, Tuesday 29th November 2022
How to watch: ITV4
Odds: Ecuador 29/20, Draw 11/5, Senegal 21/10

In what has been a World Cup of contrasts so far - thrilling high-scoring games interspersed with drab goalless affairs - Ecuador have been a pleasant surprise, impressing in their victory against Qatar before drawing with Netherlands.

Senegal have struggled at times without the injured Sadio Mane and could rue his absence, as they probably need a victory against Ecuador if they are to reach the last 16. The South Americans will be back themselves as being good enough to ensure that doesn't happen.

Dismal Wales set to miss out

What: Wales v England World Cup 2022, Group B
Where: Ahmad bin Ali Stadium, Al Rayyan, Qatar
When: 19:00, Tuesday 29th November 2022
How to watch: BBC1/BBC iplayer
Odds: Wales 15/2, Draw 16/5, England 2/5

It was sad to see Wales stars Gareth Bale and Aaron Ramsey slip into anonymity during the defeat to Iran, which in truth Robert Page’s side were fortunate to lose only 2-0.

England may have been second best for long spells against the USA, in a performance that was very similar to their grim goalless draw with Scotland at Euro 2020, but Gareth Southgate's team have more than enough quality to secure a comprehensive win against the dispirited Welsh.

Iran can frustrate USA

What: Iran v USA, World Cup 2022, Group B
Where: Al Thumama Stadium, Doha
When: 19:00, Tuesday 29th November 2022
How to watch: BBC2/BBC iplayer
Odds: Iran 14/5, Draw 12/5, USA 21/20

Another goalless draw could be on the cards when Iran meet the USA, and that could well be enough for Carlos Queiroz's side to progress from Group B.

That seemed highly unlikely just over one week ago after they had succumbed to a 6-2 humbling at the hands of England.

However, the excellent victory against Wales has given Iran a great chance of reaching the last 16, particularly as Tuesday’s opponents look short of goals.

The USA may have to settle for their third point in Qatar, following the 1-1 draw with Wales and goalless stalemate against England, and that may not be enough to seal a place in the knockout stages.
