Monday 19th December

Darts: Iceman looking to keep his cool

What: World Darts Championship
Where: Alexandra Palace, London
When: 15th December 2022 - 3rd January 2023
How to watch: Sky Sports
Odds: Michael van Gerwen 5/2, Michael Smith 5/1, Gerwyn Price 6/1, Peter Wright 9/1, Luke Humphries 14/1, Josh Rock 14/1, Jonny Clayton 20/1, Dimitri van Den Bergh 25/1

Former champion Gerwyn Price is the biggest name involved on Monday when he takes on Englishman Luke Woodhouse in round two.

Price reached the semi-finals in 2020 before winning his maiden title in 2021 but he suffered a quarter-final exit last year.

The Welshman was a 6-4 winner over Woodhouse when they met on the European Tour in April and isn't expected to encounter too many problems.

The standout tie on Monday comes earlier in the day when Jose De Sousa and 2008 runner-up Simon Whitlock meet in round two.

Whitlock entered the competition in round one, beating Czech Qualifier Christian Perez 3-2, while 17th seed De Sousa had a bye and is making his first appearance at the 2023 edition.

The Australian can be backed at 6/5 to come out on top against 4/6 De Sousa.

Championship: Latics looking for upset

What: Wigan v Sheffield United, Championship
Where: DW Stadium, Wigan
When: 20:00, Monday 19th December 2022
How to watch: Sky Sports Main Event
Odds: Wigan 29/10, Draw 12/5, Sheffield United 1/1

Former Arsenal and Manchester City defender Kolo Toure took charge of Wigan on 29th November and he oversaw a 1-1 draw at Millwall in his first game.

Monday's meeting with Sheffield United will be Toure's first home outing and it doesn't come much tougher than facing a side sitting second in the division.

Wigan have only won one of their last nine games and subsequently lie 23rd and two points from safety.

The Blades, in contrast, are in the hunt for automatic promotion and a win in Wigan would see them move within three points of leaders Burnley.

EFL Cup: Gills eyeing Premier League scalp

What: Wolves v Gillingham, EFL Cup
Where: Molineux Stadium, Wolverhampton
When: 19:45, Tuesday 20th December 2022
Odds: Wolves 1/9, Draw 7/1, Gillingham 16/1

League Two Gillingham are the lowest-ranked side remaining in the EFL Cup as we enter the round four stage on Tuesday.

They've already seen off a higher-ranked club in the shape of Premier League outright Brentford, while also earning victories over AFC Wimbledon and Exeter.

A trip to Molineux will undoubtedly provide a much sterner test but the fourth-tier club will make the journey without any pressure and hoping to pile the misery on new Wolves boss Julen Lopetegui.

There are a further three ties set to be played on Tuesday with MK Dons hosting Leicester, Bournemouth travelling to Newcastle and Southampton facing Lincoln at St Mary's.

Fallon Sherrock is in first-round action at the World Darts Championship on Tuesday when she faces Ricky Evans.

The Queen Of The Palace made her name at Ally Pally when reaching round three in 2020 and a second-round tie with Joe Cullen is up for grabs.

Raymond van Barnaveld, who lifted the title in 2007, is set to face Ryan Meikle in a second-round tie.

Where: Old Trafford, Manchester
When: 20:00, Wednesday 21st December 2022
How to watch: Sky Sports Main Event
Odds: Manchester United 4/11, Draw 15/4, Burnley 11/2

Former Manchester City captain Vincent Kompany has transformed Burnley into an attack-minded side and it's no surprise to see them leading the Championship.

Saturday's 3-1 win over Middlesbrough took Burnley's tally of goals in the league to 46 and they'll be looking to get on the front foot when they land at Old Trafford in the EFL Cup.

Manchester United can't afford to show any signs of rustiness, having not played competitively since a 2-1 win at Fulham on 13th November.

Elsewhere on Wednesday, fellow Championship high-flyers Blackburn host Premier League strugglers Nottingham Forest and Brighton head to League One Charlton.

The highlight of the fourth round in the EFL Cup takes place on Thursday when Manchester City and Liverpool meet.

After a six-week hiatus due to the World Cup, both sides will be looking to hit the ground running and this could be a cracker.

Liverpool are record nine-time winners and beat Chelsea in last season's final, while City have lifted the trophy on eight occasions.

The Reds were 1-0 winners over City in the Premier League at Anfield in October and beat Pep Guardiola's side 3-1 to win the Community Shield in July.

However, Jurgen Klopp's men have failed to win on any of their last four visits to City across all competitions.

A 7-6 season, including successive defeats, has left the New York Jets on the fringes of the playoffs but they have a great chance to recover on Friday.

The Jacksonville Jaguars, who are 5-8, head to the MetLife Stadium and their road record (2-5) suggests they could struggle.
