NBA Finals - US Sports: Tatum happy with Celtics resilience

Jayson Tatum feels Boston Celtics have shown their determination and resolve in the NBA Finals after surviving a tough third quarter in Game 3 of their series with Golden State Warriors.

The two sides meet again on Friday at TD Garden and Boston are 10/11 to win with a -4 handicap in the Point Spread and the Warriors can be backed at 29/20 in the Money Line.

The Celtics won the opening game of the series but Golden State responded in style in Game 2 with a 107-88 victory to draw level.

The Dubs blew Boston away in the second half of that game and were particularly devastating in the third quarter, outscoring them 35-14 in a passage of play that effectively decided the contest.

Celtics response

Many pundits felt Golden State would be able to pick up where they left off when the two teams faced off for the first clash in Boston but the Celtics immediately set the tone and after taking a 10-2 lead were never behind as they went in to secure a 116-100 win.

Golden State did mount a fightback, however, and moved to within two points of their hosts in the third quarter - but Boston pulled clear again as they reclaimed the series lead.

The Celtics looked fragile at times in the early stages of the season but since January have been able to bounce back quickly after a defeat.

Tatum sees Celtics character

Boston finished the regular season with a 28-10 record after a pair of home defeats to Charlotte Hornets and Portland Trail Blazers in January and only once during that run did they lose back-to-back games.

The Celtics have lost seven games during the playoffs but no team has managed to beat them twice in a row in the postseason, and Tatum was delighted with the way they responded yet again to defeat in Game 3 and with how they survived Golden State’s comeback attempt in the second half.

"I think that's kind of when we turned our season around, when we turned that corner [after the loss to Portland]," said Tatum, via ESPN. "Earlier in the season, we would have given up leads and lost games like that, whereas now - things happen, right. They're a great team. They've got great players. They're going to make shots. They're going to go on runs. But it's all about how you respond.

"We didn't hold our head down or anything. We called a timeout, regrouped, figured it out and made winning plays. I was definitely proud of the group for that."
