The Gold Coast Suns have secured the future of talented small forward Ben Ainsworth who has penned a deal to take him through until the end of the 2024 season.
The Suns are priced at 7/1 to finish in the top eight of the AFL and play finals this season and Ainsworth will be key to their chances.
The 24-year-old has made an impressive start to the 2022 campaign and stood out despite a disappointing defeat against the Brisbane Lions last weekend.
He gathered 22 disposals and kicked a goal, while he was also involved in three others. Ainsworth is excited for the future and is delighted to have penned his deal.
St Kilda star out for the season
“I love this footy club, our footy club, and I know this playing group is committed to ensuring that the path we’re on is centred around bringing success to the Gold Coast,” Ainsworth said.
“The football program that has been established provides us as players with every opportunity to continue to grow both on and off the field and I’m excited by the opportunity to develop as part of it.
“We’ve come a long way as a club in my six seasons and I want to ensure I continue to help lead us into the next part of our journey.”
Meanwhile Suns General Manager Player List and Strategy Craig Cameron is delighted with the deal and the fact Ainsworth is now locked in.
“Ben has worked tirelessly since joining the club to establish himself as a player at the AFL level but also to help set the foundations of our football club,” Cameron said.
“We’re thrilled to have Ben continue his journey with us, as we strive to bring success to the Gold Coast.”
