The Gold Coast Suns fear that Lachie Weller may have suffered an anterior cruciate ligament injury in his right knee during Saturday’s win over North Melbourne.
The Suns are priced at 100/1 to win the AFL grand final in 2022 but could now have to see the season out without Weller if their post-match fears prove to be correct.
Gold Coast picked up a 62-point win but it has come at a huge cost after Weller sustained the injury in the final quarter of the game.
Judging by the player’s reaction he knew exactly what he had done and coach Stewart Dew was also in a sombre mood after the game.

"Yeah, that's what the fear is and what it looked like," Dew told reporters after the game. "We'll find out for sure, but it doesn't look good.
"They never look good when they're in open space and try to change direction. We're going to miss him. He's in the form of his career and he's had a real impact on the footy club."
The win takes the Gold Coast to 10th on the ladder with a 6-6 win-loss record and Dew is satisfied heading into the bye.
"We came to Darwin to get to eight points, and we've got them," he said after the back-to-back wins. "I feel like we've clawed our way back from two and five, we've squared the ledger and we get to take a break and look forward to the second half of the year."
