The penultimate weekend of the Championship season kicks off on Friday night with QPR hosting Sheffield United, and I’ve picked out three selections for a Bet Builder.
A few months ago, this fixture had the potential to be a huge clash in the hunt for the play-offs, but QPR have fallen off a cliff in recent weeks.
I’ve seen both QPR and Sheffield United up here at the bet365 Stadium over the last three weeks and I’ve got to say I was disappointed with both, with the pair leaving Staffordshire with no points and just one shot on target each for their efforts
The Rs were one of my pre-season fancies and were looking good for a play-off finish, priced at 8/15 in mid-January after beating West Brom, but their fortunes since February have been markedly different, winning just three of their last 16 games, leaving the play-offs out of sight.
Their opponents have also struggled for consistency in the last couple of months. Hampered by a litany of postponements around Christmas, the Blades only played 22 games in the first five months of the season, meaning they’ve had to squeeze another 22 into the last three months.
As such, they haven’t won back-to-back games since February, and the South Yorkshire side desperately need to put that right against QPR. Their final game sees Paul Heckingbottom’s men host Fulham, who they’ll hope are visiting Bramall Lane as champions with nothing to play for. Of course, the final day of the season may be academic depending on how results around United go this weekend.
Sander Berge has had 18 shots in his last 11 games and was unlucky not to find the scoresheet against Cardiff on Saturday, hitting the post during a superb display. He’s my first selection, with Over 0.5 Shots.
The midfielder remains a favourite of mine, even though I was a game early when tipping him to score against Forest last month, the 6ft 4” Norwegian then went on to score in three of the next four, but I’m not bitter…
Talking of favourites, as an Albion fan, you can’t help but like Sam Field. The Stourbridge-born midfielder isn’t afraid to put his foot in, his 14 yellow cards in 24 starts tells us that! The season may be over for the Super Hoops but I can see Field’s competitive nature taking over and finding himself in Peter Bankes’ notebook.
The Blades do need to win to cement their place in the play-off picture and I’ll be keeping an eye on their corner count at Loftus Road. They’ve posted the fourth-highest total for flag-kicks so far this season (as well as conceding the fewest) and Ollie Norwood’s winner against Mark Warburton’s team earlier in the month was from a well worked corner routine. I’m finishing my boosted Bet Builder with Sheffield United Over 6 Corners.
Sander Berge – Over 0.5 Shots – 2/9
Sam Field to be Booked – 21/10
Over 6 Corners for Sheff Utd – 2/1
Bet Builder – Boosted from 10/1 to 14/1
