Aussie Rules: St Kilda rule out Clarkson move

St Kilda have dismissed talk of making a move for former Hawthorn coach Alastair Clarkson and look set to keep faith with Brett Ratten.

St Kilda are pushing to finish in the top four of the AFL and are going very nicely as they sit in fifth spot on the ladder with eight wins from 11 games.

Clarkson links

Despite Saints going well this season there are question marks over whether Ratten is the man to help them end their premiership drought.

Clarkson, who won four premierships with Hawthorn, is available after leaving the Hawks at the end of last season. Club legend Nick Riewoldt has suggested the powers that be should make a move to get him on board.

However St Kilda CEO Matt Finnis has dismissed such talk and says that Ratten is the man to carry on at the helm.

Ratten is out of contract at the end of the year and much could depend on what happens between now and then. However talks are continuing and Ratten looks sure to get the nod.

Not on the radar

"It's not something that's on our radar at all," Finnis said. "We've got a model in our football department where it's not all about one person and it's not all about 'the coach is the hero'.

"It's about the coach as a model leader of an entire program and Ratts is the perfect person to do that because he understands the importance of bringing people on a journey.

"He understands that he can't be everything to everyone and we've got a wonderful mix of great people, led by Ratts, which is our model at St Kilda. We think we've got the right man to lead that."
