Aussie Rules: Sparrow pens Demons deal

Melbourne began the 2022 AFL campaign with a 26-point win over the Western Bulldogs and then announced young gun Tom Sparrow has penned a new two-year deal.

The Demons are priced at 3/1 to back-up their 2021 premiership success by winning this year's grand final and they could not have got off to a better start against the Bulldogs on Wednesday night.

Sparrow commits

And just to keep the good times rolling, the club announced on Thursday morning that Sparrow has penned a contract extension for another two years.

Sparrow enjoyed an impressive breakout campaign in 2021 as the Demons went on to end their 57-year wait for a premiership, and the club have moved quickly to tie him down.

The former No.27 draft pick has already played 29 senior games for the Demons and is tipped to have a very bright future in blue and red.

Sparrow again showed his quality with 13 touches in the win over the Bulldogs at the MCG and List Manager Tim Lamb says the club are delighted to have him locked in.

Very bright future

"We are rapt to have Tom sign on for a further two seasons," Lamb told Melbourne Media after news of the deal broke on Thursday.

"At just 21 years old, he is already developing into a really important player for us and he is a loved and respected member of our playing group.

"Tom is fiercely competitive and driven to get the best out of himself. We are excited to see where he can take his game over the next few years."
