EFL Cup Bet Boosts: Riyad Mahrez to score & Man City to prevail in 9/2 shot

We're offering even bigger prices across both of Wednesday night's EFL Cup quarter-final clashes, including a standout 9/2 chance at St Mary's.

Outright favourites Manchester City resume their quest for EFL Cup glory when they travel to the south coast to take on Southampton in front of the live television cameras.

Pep Guardiola's men are the odds-on 5/6 favourites to recapture the title for a seventh time in ten seasons as they seek to lay down the marker to their top-flight rivals by landing the first domestic silverware of the 2022/23 season.

The Citizens, who triumphed in this competition in consecutive campaigns between 2018 and 2021, are 2/9 to prevail on the road and end 12/1 chance Southampton's Wembley hopes.

Manchester United and Newcastle United rubber-stamped their semi-final tickets with wins over Leicester City and Charlton Athletic on Tuesday, and are priced at 5/2 and 9/2 respectively to reign supreme in North London next month.

But for now, it's all eyes on Wednesday's two other last eight showdowns - a night of action that also sees Nottingham Forest (8/5) play host to Premier League rivals Wolverhampton Wanderers (9/5) at the City Ground.

As ever, we've got a number of Bet Boosts available on both games, including an enhanced 9/2 Riyad Mahrez inspired Man City victory Bet Builder, which we feels carries plenty of appeal.

Backing up the Boost

This exact same Bet Builder will have come in if you had played it ahead of the Premier League showdown between the two sides back in October, and there is every chance it comes in once more this time around.

On that occasion the Citizens swept aside the Saints 4-0 at the Etihad Stadium courtesy of goals either side of the interval from Joao Cancelo, Phil Foden, Riyad Mahrez and the free-scoring Erling Haaland.

Whilst Wednesday's showdown will take place at St Mary's it's difficult to see anything other than a City victory - and the odds show that too, with Guardiola's men 2/9 to prevail and Southampton a huge 12/1 to succeed.

The eight time EFL Cup winners have enjoyed almost unparalleled domination in recent years, triumphing in the competition in 2018, 2019, 2020 and 2021, before West Ham ended that run on spot kicks last season.

But City are right back in the hunt to reclaim the crown from Chelsea in February, and will hope to chalk up a fourth successive victory on the road to secure themselves a spot in the draw for the final four.

In fact, Southampton have come out on top in just one of the last 15 meetings between the two sides - with over two goals being scored in nine of those fixtures too - including four earlier this season and five in City's thumping 4-1 FA Cup triumph in Hampshire last March.

And in Algerian maestro Mahrez, who will hope to get the green light to build on his recent impressive form, Guardiola possesses the talents of one of English football's most in-form attacking threats.

The former Leicester City ace put Chelsea to the sword in recent weeks, netting the winner at Stamford Bridge in their league meeting, before helping himself to a clinically taken double in their dominant 4-0 FA Cup win at the weekend.

That trio of goals took his tally for the campaign to 10 in 26 appearances, and more impressively, seven in his last nine outings for both club and country.
