NRL: Sims ready to play on

Tariq Sims says he is feeling fitter than ever and is ready to extend his NRL career despite his time with St George Illawarra set to come to an end this season.

The Dragons are priced at 100/1 to win the NRL grand final this season in what will be Sims’ last one with the club.

As things stand Sims is out of contract with the Dragons at the end of the season and there is no sign of him penning a new one.

Melbourne Storm have been linked with a move to take him for the 2023 season and Sims is in no doubt he is ready to play on.

"I'm nowhere near the end," the 32-year-old told reporters. "I'm probably the fittest and strongest that I've ever been in my whole career. It's no secret the start of my career was injury plagued, but that's given me longevity and (knowing) what I've needed to do and stay in the game.

"I've taken the licks with suspension as well, so they've sort of taught me to be able to adjust and last as long as I have in NRL. I'm firing on all cylinders to be brutally honest."

Ready to battle

There is still the chance of Sims landing a new deal with the Dragons and he will continue to train hard and battle for his future.

"That's unfortunately the beauty of the beast sometimes," Sims added. "You go out there and play as hard as you can for a team and when your time comes, your time comes.

"All I can control is how good on playing and what I'm doing for the boys and how I'm approaching training."
